They dont GAS, they have a monopoly.
Its that simple.

Monopolies dont listen because no force will make them.
Money is the ONLY force that makes people listen.

When we held classes, it was explained by master instructor Dane Gregory to expect a delay in the grading process for the tests as the IICRC was switching to a new management company. I could understand a delay but I wished the IICRC could have been better at communicating, just to let us know what was going on.

Oh sure, there are pros and cons to the IICRC certification, with the fleet that we have, it's an investment to avoid making a mistake out in the field.

Is that common everywhere? We've never been asked if we are IICRC certified for fire or water. Our supervisors and lead tech's are but have never been asked by any insurance representative.

I think they fill a need in our industry and will continue to support them. Like all organizations they move slow. Hopefully they can get their act together soon.

Up here, the guys who own the Franchise type firms have told me their people need to be certified for the insurance work.

The insurance companies ....supposedly....then help to guarantee the said franchise companies work (certify dry....blah, blah, blah) but I really don't know how much the insurance company really would step up to the plate...

Also was a way to get those firms on their preferred vendor programs, the insurance company also makes money from the discounts given by those on the vendor list....

Just wasn't my cup of tea....

The IICRC, originally named the International Institute of Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Inc. (IICUC), was founded in 1972 by Ed York.

Since starting in 1972, the IICRC has evolved into global organization with more than 53,000 active certified technicians and more than 6,000 Certified Firms around the world.

Currently, the IICRC is headquartered in . and has offices in the United Kingdom and Australia.

I believe that the above is pretty much dead in the water in Australia.

In fact, I can't even find a IICRC office listed in Australia, although there are many firms doing their certification courses, where I believe, test papers must be submitted back to the USA for scrutiny. :shifty:

Add to the fact that we do have ONE sitting board member down under that is a managing director of a training organisation.

Matter of fact, I'm doing a course down there next month with them.

BUT, I won't be doing the test for accreditation. :winky:

Where's Tony ?? His silence is deafening.

:yoda:

I received my first IICRC certification in 1998 and worked up to Master cleaner. I let them all expire starting in 2005 because I never ever had anyone ask if I was certified and I felt it was a waste of money to keep up on the continuing education credits. For me it was a waste of money and time.
I'd like to respond to some of the valid comments and concerns expressed here. What stands out most is the profound level of frustration and dissatisfaction with the IICRC, and the manner in which it has chosen to conduct business. I couldn't agree more; but I respect the incredible time and effort that so many talented people contributed to creating the standards (S100, S500, S520). It should be noted that the standards and their value are a separate entity from the IICRC. Many of the hard working people who contributed to the creation of these standards are no longer involved with or support the IICRC. That does not diminish the standard(s) or their value. All the classes, training, and exams will never replace experience, but what is the value of those combined? The IICRC as organization has failed; not because it didn't process test results in a timely fashion but because they failed to respect, value, and understand the people who sustained their existence. After earning 3 master level certifications, perhaps people should be considered more than just a "registrant".

Not that I get too worked up one way or the other, but I do find it funny that their copious amounts of newsletters, emails, publications, and press releases all come out like clock work with no mention of how they are addressing the issues.

Meanwhile, things are complete chaos behind the scenes.
