Empty commercial I think would be fine but never in residential. Last thing a customer needs is a carpet cleaner singing and dancing while working.

As for wanting them to hear the equipment I think most wouldnt go check the equipment anyway unless it completely shut down.

Sure I can listen and work but I think it just looks unprofessional especially when it's a big buck job and the customer is watching.

Residential no, although I'd love to. Commercial hell yeah, I can rock out some square footage when I have tunes

Commercial only. To many problems in residential volume, type of music if over heard by client, and conversation about music.
