Every few years I get a customer from hell. The one bd that called off my EDDM thought his $200 was enough for me to listen to his bs and attitude. I hope he gives me a bad review so I can reply " No one should do business with rude people, the customer is not always right, don't put money over respect, I cleaned the countertop for FREE then walked out without cleaning the other areas"

He was trouble from the start, I gave him $100 off a $300 job instead of $55 of the EDDM discount cause he was a cheap ass and told me that another company would regrout and clean his 25 year old countertops and shower i was only charging $2 sqft before discounts and I don't usually clean old showers and counter, they never look good enough. The $100 off wasn't enough he told me he'd give referals for another 10% off. I didn't say anything and scheduled the job. I showed up thing morning and had to move all the crap off the counter cause they weren't ready. $60 for the kitchen counter that took and hour. I asked humid he could take a look at my work and he said I was bugging him. I suggested color seal, the grout was stained and the acid didn't help the grout. I told him during the estimate that I should be color sealed, he didn't even want the 25 sqft entry cleaned. I could see him bitching at the end, and I wasn't about to spend a couple more hours upstairs, he would've tried to shave another $50 afterwards . Yesterday I did a $730 tile and carpet job without sealer in 4.5 hours and the customer was a CPA just like this guy, minus the b.s.

Yes it's aways best to weather the storm and collect the check then never do business with him again.
But ONE time I calmly told this man that I was going to pull out my knife and cut his balls off and stick them in his mouth.

He was one of those SISSY FAGS who hated manly mens like me.

And as I was walking away after collecting his check I thought I could hear him......................giggle.

....

Are all countertops in California ceramic, grouted tile? I've only seen them in Cali, and so old houses around here.

Been there, done that.......walked out on a crybaby young girl (who was going to med school) that complained about EVERYTHING!. Just packed up the hoses, started the truck and left without a kiss. They thought I was going to lunch.

Lyon from listening to your posts in the last few weeks you need to do two things.
Take two weeks off.
Think about weather you are better off doing something else.
You pissed off the commercial client.
You are shot gunning for anything that works for advertising.
You just walked out on a client.

Just a observation. Take a few days off and focus. You seem to need a break.

Your a good guy you shouldn't be so frustrated with your business. Enjoy the ride.

After you actually show up and take the job you need to get paid! If you don't he won.. Make a note in your books, or save his number as "cheap asshole" so you know how to charge him for his next service. Keep positive ALL the time, then you don't even need a 30 step cleaning process. Be a problem solver, people love that chit!

Arabs used to screw me for my first 3 years, now they get dinged if they have an accent.. Well they really don't pay more then anyone else, I just put extra money on the estimate knowing they will "Arab" me down..LOL :eekk:

Sorry man but sounds like you knew he was trouble from the start and I personally know after 18 years doing this that you do get that feeling and it's "always, always" best to pass and let it go on jobs like that

I've dealt with worse customers on a daily bias when I worked at a budget company for several years, I good at turning $59 special into $450, I made them $130,000 a year, and a lot of it was from $59 basic cleanings. I dealt with cheap Middle Eastern, Indian, Chinese and white trash customers. I put up with a lot of crap that I don't put up from my own cliental. I paid my dues and only took the job today cause it was the only one I got from the mailing, and I sent to the wrong parts of Roseville and Rocklin by accident. My neighborhoods nice that a most of the mail routes I sent to. I'll send 2,500 EDDM out to the homes this time, I have a lot of $800,000 plus homes within a couple miles from my house, and some of them are my clients, I'll mail to them and to large customs near golf courses.

I can see how sometimes you just have to exercise your right to walk out.I have done it myself, but as difficult as it may be, is there a "best" way to do it??One extreme would be to explain to the customer in a professional way that you can no longer work for them, for whatever reason, and try to control any collateral damage that may result, and the other extreme would be to let them know just how you feel.A strong argument can be made in favor of trying to avoid making it any worse if possible.I wouldn't assume that a negative public review will be seen by everyone in the same light only because you posted a response, and who knows who he will be running his mouf to.His comment regarding another companies price, and his desire to knock your price down should have been major red flags and should be grounds for a intensive pre-qualification and very clear setting of expectations. You agreeing to a nice fat discount in light of these warnings helped set the table for disaster IMHO, but hey, hindsights 20/20, ain't it?

After TRYING to understand what you write in your posts Lyon, I have to say: You should take at least a long weekend and don't even think about your business. We have ALL been there. I know, I have to get away twice a year to make sure I won't reorganize a customer's face with a lift buddy...

I remember back when I did the polishit free room offer only sent to rich homes the most asked question I got was how much more can you do for free.

Rainbow Carpet And Upholstery Cleaning
I asked humid he could take a look at my work and he said I was bugging him. I suggested color seal, the grout was stained and the acid didn't help the grout. I told him during the estimate that I should be color sealed, he didn't even want the 25 sqft entry cleaned. I could see him bitching at the end, and I wasn't about to spend a couple more hours upstairs, he would've tried to shave another $50 afterwards . Yesterday I did a $730 tile and carpet job without sealer in 4.5 hours and the customer was a CPA just like this guy, minus the b.s.

Dude, you're the reason our industry has such a bad reputation. You weren't able to gouge him for color sealing a tile cleaning job you were having trouble with so you actually walked out without saying anything and blocked his #. Jeeze. You're lucky he didn't call the police because of your strange behavior. Very unprofessional.

This is a train wreck from beginning to end.

First off you gave $100 off on a $300 job, nobody is going to respect that.
Secondly you did a pretty crappy job and should have tested 1 or 2 lines first.

Think of it from his perspective, not his fault you messed up your ad campaign and had a bad attitude from the get go.

My assistant told me he was trouble when she gave me his number to call him to book an appointment. I asked him if they were floor tiles and he said yes, 75 in the kitchen and a small bathroom. I thought it was going to be a $120 job so I took my car, instead of my van for the estimate. Come to find out that the only floor tile was in the entryway, I would brought my van and tested and area and told him that it would be $500 to clean and colorseal with discount. As soon as I arrived he had a bad attitude, he didn't want a quote on a small entryway, told me to give him a quote on the kitchen and come talk to him before going upstairs to measure the bathroom. He was too lazy to show me around and he couldn't get his fat lazy ass off the computer to talk to me. I knew from the first 30 seconds that I didn't want to do business with this guy. He made a bug deal when I ask him if he could take a look at the kitchen to see how a came out.

Didn't we become owner operators so we could pick and chose who we work for?

I keep blacklisted customers and good customers all in one file. That way the bad ones don't get overlooked.

I feel for you brother. Nobody should have to put up with that stuff. Too bad he got the last word by being able and more than motivated to bad mouth you all over town. I hate it when I let the customer win. Especially when they are jerks like that.

Too bad,

Jim
