What tools/equipment do you have available to you and what methods are you most familiar with? How are you normally cleaning rugs that don't have urine or a seemingly daunting price tag?

can HWE or 2 step encap, I've washed more $$$ wool rugs in my driveway, its the composition that has me :headscratch:

I'm thinking of lightly misting 6% HP on some of the visible staining and flushing acid rinse encap into my spot claw if I put that under the rug just to rinse some of it away

possibly light misting over rest of rug with acid rinse encap follow with microfibre bonnet

open to suggestions or criticism

The jute content will make this one prone to browning, and the viscose content will make it subject to fiber distortion and color bleeding. The presence of urine will already make these weaknesses more apparent, and your need to flush that urine out will mean it's even more likely to bleed , brown, and/or distort.

What worries me is that you don't have a rug specialist close to help you if any of the above happen.

What is the job worth to you?

handmade rug this size around $350 for me, this client around 3k a year

I can see the value of your customer to you. But if she thinks you ruined it, you would lose over the 3K she's worth in cost, and probably lose her on top of that.

I said "thinks you ruined it", because actually the urine has ruined it. With the above advice in mind, have her understand that the rug in its condition would have no appraised value, and your efforts will be done with that understanding.

First I'd recommend a small fire so she can use the insurance money to buy something more pet accident friendly.

Otherwise, test for bleeding. Do a small puppy damaged area to see if you can make an improvement. To remove urine you're going to have to get it wet, so spend time getting it dry quickly. When you're done you can set it on fire so your insurance will pay for it.

Good to know that consumers are getting ripped off in other places. Thanks for the company.

I just thought I would repost the most important parts of Bryan's sage advice.

Mr O. is not often subtle, but most often right.

HP would be a mistake, the Jute can bleach out even with a weak solution of HP. If you must use HP test a small spot, if the result is ok then apply evenly the the entire rug, not just the spot. If it's what you normally do then I'd encap it and deodorize with something, get dry ASAP and let her know that's the best you can do for her.
Rugs like this are even more reason why proper rug cleaning equipment/skills like a centrifuge and dry room are so important. These rugs come into our shop all the time. Even though stain removal can be limited and shrinkage is a concern, these can all be wet washed on the wash floor completely removing the urine odor and greatly improving the look of the rug. Without tools to remove water effectively and dry the rug quickly success can be limited and catastrophic outcomes are a real concern.

If you're used to hosing down rugs on your driveway, then get a signed release from your customer and go for it. Treat the urine stains with a mixture of tannin stain remover, (full strength) and a little neutral detergent. Flush entire carpet with hose until all urine is gone. Extract until you can't get any moisture out of it, then extract a little more. Hang over something and put some fans on it. Then throw it away. Don't forget to charge for the disposal fee.

The problem you can have is dye loss. It more plant then A fiber. I would use a detergent of 9 phnomre flush very well. Then I would spray it with an enzyme both sides cover it with host to help dry and absorb.
