if you install flooring and 1/4rnd or base molding is part of the job and/or do any finish construction on WD jobs

got an e-mail this morning
One of Home Depot's flooring contractors put a finish nail thru a water line in the wall while nailing up new baseboard

here's the kicker, it was installed 3 years ago
Had to be a drip in the wall that leaked to the outside undiscovered
….til the nail rusted/corroded enough to pop out and jet spray cut thru the drywall





the mess has been cleaned up and pipe fixed .
The homeowner wants us to finish
(we've done $30K in remolding there over the years)

damn thankful it wasn't our FUBAR

Mold on face fibre of carpet and the smooth edge (U.S. tackless?) the ensuite is behind that wall its a leaker...

My friend had that happen to his house a few years ago. Over time that nail rusted and sprang a leak.

Took 4 years to show up as they only used the system two months out of the year

The mold stench was unreal, but went ignored

Found a similar situation when helping a friend install new carpet. When removing the old carpet, we found mold and rotted 2x4's at the base of the wall. Turns out he installed track lighting 4 years earlier and on screw slightly nicked the down spout of the upstairs shower drain.

Was pounding tackless one day, finished the install GOT home and GOT a call about the basement flooding. Turns out it radiant heat and one of the nails pierced the hw tube. Learned that a mop is my best friend when doing radiant floors.
