"Hi Mike. I have a job to go do a pre-inspection. It’s a shower stall and they’re not sure if it’s natural stone or man-made. What is the best way to determine what the stone is so I know whether to use an alkaline or an acid cleaner to clean the grout? Thank you for your help dude"

How many of these type messages do you get? This guy needs to be educated on how he is about screw himself on one of the more challenging task a “carpet cleaner” may see. There is a lot more than ph to worry about.

The simplest test is a light scratch. White = calcite (marble, travertine). No scratch = ceramic.

If you think it is ceramic, find a duplicate pattern. That confirms it.

The next thing is, always clean with an alkaline cleaner except on rare occasions.

Finally, Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself.

Agree that some education before cleaning any natural stone would be helpful, good insurance.

Clean any surface with alkaline first. Acid would be a follow-up.

Wipe off small test are. Apply a few drops of acid cleaner. See if it fizzes. If so, do not clean with acid.
