Magnetic softener, is this enough?

My maxx has one of those magnetic polar softeners. According to the manual they recommend it. Is this enough for a hard water area or do I also need a regular softener?.

Hydramaster believed in them enough to include them with their TM's.

They will provide some protection against scaling.

Is it enough protection ?

That depends on your water hardness.
