Is there an additive for carpet cleaning prespray to help prevent mildew? I'm asking because I have a customer asking about it. I don't think they have mildew on their carpet but are concerned with a musty odor from time to time that they equate with possible mildew. It's commercial carpet on a slab.

There used to be sprays for that type situation. Ultra Fresh, Sylguard, Aegis, not sure if anyone is still making a product like that with residual retardant properties.

Ask them if they have a dehumidifier set up with the drain hose attached to the drain so they could set the humidity.

Bingo. Yes, you could certainly add a mildewcide into the spray, but if their slab is wicking moisture(and what slab does not?) then humidity control is the key.

OK, years ago at a CAD here , a rep told me that their Microban germicidal cleaner(now Mediclean) was developed for just that purpose. Story he told was that they developed it for places like schools , where the cleaning was done by staffers who were not necessarily good carpet cleaners, doing all the things they do in the summer when school is out. Problems with , 1. incorrect cleaning, coupled with closing it all up right afterward with no air movement, hence musty smell.
Do not know it it is the case , but sounds reasonable.
