our jobs any easier. Little less then 3 years I'm cleaning these SmartStrand carpets, and more poly's and poly blends. I really thought I would reserve my opinion and let them prove themselves at each cleaning. IMO they are crap and I'm on my 5 cleaning where the customer is putting in a claim for the wear portion of the warranty. The carpet store I work closely with says they are now selling only 15% nylons. Price price price.

Mohawk if you're listening, shame on you for producing crap and shame on you for creating the urban myth that spot cleaning and maintenance cleaning can be done with hot water only. And shame on you for creating a list of toy vacuum cleaners that you expect the consumer to use on your...........wait for it........crap carpet. Let me say "crap" just one more time.

There was a time when Mohawk made quality stuff. This carpet I cleaned last week was installed in 1964. It is Dupont 501 nylon.

Put a top quality nylon cut pile in our living rm this June

14 x 19 size room
Cost on it was $1051...that's their cost (the carpet store i work with)

Not too many folks will spend that much for one rm of carpet
even less would spend that if paying retail price and carpeting a whole house

I cleaned a nylon this morning that is around 30 years old. I'm serious. Last week, I cleaned a 2 year old Smartstrand that the owner had put a wear warranty claim on.

I have a 20 year old nylon 6.6 in my MBR. There's some wear, but for 20 years it looks pretty good.

Don't have a calculator handy, but that comes out to be over $50/sy?

Are you serious?

MoeHawk hired a "flooring inspector" to drive 2 hours to inspect a carpet I cleaned after the customer had filed a claim under the wear portion of her warranty. This is the kind of expert findings that may be in back of your cleaning;

"Observation: Examination of the highest traffic areas found a very slight blossoming at the tips of the yarn. This condition is very slight. There is slightly more crushing that occurs. No matting was seen. Photos were taken of the traffic areas. When a flash is used soiling is very evident in the pictures. Using the Carpet and Rug Institute Field Guide for texture and retention the carpet rated three and a half tour. When the carpet is brushed and groomed is is a solid four if not slightly better. CONCLUSION; During inspection the visibility of the traffic pattern is a combination of slight crushing, which is common in a carpet of this density combined with soiling that is still present. Photos of the change and soiling were taken and will be submitted"

This was a 14 month old cut pile Smart Strand lived on by two people. Got vacuumed twice per week. Shoes?, yes but no more then any average two person retired household. I pre-vacuumed and then layed down pre-spray like routine. Upstairs rinsed out picture perfect as the stairs. Running Esteem CBS Performance as per my routine. Not my first job of the day/week/year. Traffic lanes downstairs near front door and garage door and office all leading to the family room not rinsing like most the other portions of the job. I'm using glided wand and 240 degrees out the machine. I re-spray traffic areas with stronger pre-spray and check my jug injection. Normal. And no difference after rinsing like a fool. White towel test looked like the virgin mary.

So why am I posted this update. Cause Mohawk is so f..... up that they are hiring people to deny wear claims by using flash photography to document soil. Never mind a bone white towel test, no. They're using photography to get out from under replacing carpet. I have seen all the photos that were taken, they all show EXACTLY the distortion in the traffic lanes I left behind. Excuse me, the "soil" I left behind. The carpet retailer removed and replaced the carpet and said the carpet was immaculate and the traffic lanes were just plain worn. I'll be anxious to hear if the retailer wins this fight with Mohawk.

If you are cleaning Smart Strand be smart. Do all you can in the traffic lanes. Can't hurt to use a bone white towel in the worst areas to see if you are leaving soil behind. Be sure and use flash digital photography if you are uncertain of your white towel. There just may be a hard working inspector in back of you documenting the dirt you left behind with another digital photo. Beat him or her to the punch......

I guess I'm fked either way, my pops is a flooring inspector and has been since the early 90's..... I'm privy to a lot of knowledge that the average person isn't.... Mohawk has had a lot of problems with carpeting over the years, some of which was latex issues.... Sometimes it's best to just walk away.... The carpet warranty is only good, if you don't walk/live on it....

Tip blooming, pile crushing, density of the pile. I see a lot of thinning wear in high use areas. Which creates shadowing.

When it's comes down to it nylon always bounces back best cleans best.

I always tell my customers to stick with nylon or burbur but that gets funky to after awhile.
