That's a hard deal Brendan.

Laws won't let us treat him like a thief in the home unfortunately.

You will have to just keep working on him. If you have a business address you can just show up....but keep your cool.

I've put liens on house for lack of payment....not carpet cleaning related....but it can be done here in the States....Not sure about your area.

Reporting him to the credit bureaus etc.

Not a whole lot can be done to make him pay unless you can get a hold of his checking account through the courts...but good luck finding the right checking account.
Guys like that will change them monthly.

Good luck.

When we've done all we can and they are just not going make good on their debt, we turn them into the collection agency.

We lose 40% but it's better than 100% of nothing. thathurts

Twenty years ago I had a hotel that owed $8,000.00 for some WDR work. They delayed paying for three months, turned them into collections, but they refused them. They said the group owed everyone and there was no point. A few months later the owner called wanted to pay half because he was selling the property.

We told him we couldn't do that. :x

He sold the hotel, that new owner lasted 6-months and they went out, we never collected a thing. We should have took half when he was willing to pay.

Lesson learned, when a may says he is broke and is only able to pay so much, take it. You may not get a second chance to collect it. thathurts

I've been screwed all of a few times. One time nothing.....other time I got a little under half because she was going to make payments etc.

I have some larger accounts that I sweat over everytime we do them because you just never know with this economy.

My parents cleaned for a Montgomery Wards back in the day and they owed a ton of money.....MW went bankrupt and Mom and Dad never got a dime. Oouch.

I'm waiting for some pretty big checks right now.

And hopefully Groupon doesn't go out of business any time soon.

Not sure about Irish law, but here in England you could threaten him
with a winding up order.

Give him 14 days to pay in writing, and inform him that you will apply
for a summary winding up order if payment not recieved.

What you are saying is you don't believe he has the capital to maintain his
business, and is therefore operating illegally.

You can claim the cost of the order, plus interest at 8.5% PA calculated daily
from the date the invoice was issued.

The court applies the order and he has 7 days to pay, or his business is no more.
This is powerful stuff and has even forced British Gas amongst others to settle
very speedily.

The only way they can fight it is to prove to the court they are financially viable by
paying YOU.

Nah..........Brian.
You are safe for now, they may go bankrupt only after their IPO.

And knowing how invested you are, both financially and emotionally, you may be interested in buying some of their stock :p

Remember the Alamo though

I don't think Groupon will last like Facebook or Google.

At least now how they are doing now anyway.
