need help with a paint spill

painter spilled a gallon of pain onto a nylon carpet.i have not dealt with a mess this big. whats my best approach. i know the cleaned up as much as possible

Keep it damp and extract if that is possible.

If the paint has dried, the most reasonable solution is often replacement of the carpet or a section / bonded insert.

This may be covered by insurance.

Latex?
Oil?

If latex and still wet water will still dissolve it. If not rubbing alcohol and gentle scrubbing will.

If oil based you'll need some solvents. However using too much can delaminate the carpet's backing.

Don't do without a signed release of liability, unless you want to own it.

Tell them to gently dab and absorb as much as they can. Great if they have a wet vac.
Than have them lay a damp (slightly moist) towel on it.

Rather than dabbing with a towel to remove the excess, I'd suggest a "squeegee" method into the shop vac .
Any blunt tool will work as the squeegee

if it's still wet when you get there, it should only require LOTS of hot water flush/rinse extraction .
You shouldn't need any chems , just hot water.
if you run a TM, a little emulsifier (detergent) won't hurt either

repeat.."if" it's still wet when you get there, no need to dump chems on it ...
just LOTS of flushing to get 100% of it out

when i got there it was a little damp. the majority of it came out theres a light outline were it landed that won`t come out. it did`nt help that the paint was purple and the carpet was tan. i flushed it pretty good i have a tm with good heat. any other ideas . after flushing it i tried baby blue
i would like to get it out 100 %

Try PIG (Paint, Ink & Grease Remover) or another non-volatile solvent. Be patient. Over application of a solvent can damage the adhesives in the backing and result in delamination. The remaining paint will come off a little at a time.

yes sir . i love that machine. runs circles around my cleanco very happy with the performance. took care of the float today. my next hurdle is to see how i can keep everything the way it is and use my fresh water tank

Be interesting, I doubt PIG or any other solvent will get that hue out. And you'll risk delamination.

Most likely, if the fabric will tolerate, that a boosted peroxide may help.

Try to resist the temptation to get it to be just perfect.
That's when the serious problems tend to start.

Spray on some Alsolv from Bridgepoint, agitate it well. Apply some Orangel (I use Zep) then spray the Alsolv into the gel, work that into the paint. I've had good success with that. I ran out of Proschoice tube solvent, need something I could get more mileage from.

tried pig, i don`t want to go to heavy and cause any damage . customer likes it. i `m the one who wants it all gone.

Rob..i lost your number....
When you plumb that FWT.... MAKE SURE that you use 3/8 plumbing and gate valve from the fwt to the pump...don't use that 1/4 that's on the present holding tank.......
to pull that distance it takes a 5/8 heater hose to the pump.....!

DO NOT use an electric pump.......!!!!!!!

when you get paint out of carpet the customer will be in your fanclub for life. I have one person who always leaves good reviews for me because I got out a bunch of black paint from her white carpet.
