Roofing tar, I can get the little thinner spots off w/a POG, I'm wondering about the "chunks" and no the covers will not come off, nor can I test any the material, hence I have no idea of the fiber content. I was thinking freeze n peel. Whatsayou?

I think that's a good thing to try JB- definitely on't want to saturate them in by liquifyingwith POG. Test an area and see what happens.

long time ago I was helping a company do some roofing....some how..a lot tar got on the indoor out door carpet they had laid on there back porch.....after the job was done the owner took some can of stuff and froze the large clump of tar solid and then tapped it with his hammer.....( he did not slam it..he tapped it )...the entire mass shattered into little bitty pieces and let its grip go on the carpet and he just brushed it off..............

Then I would get off the majority by gentle breaking, rolling material, scraping etc.. and removing the rest with citrus solvent after testing.

I've done one time in the past, but to be honest, I don't think it would hold water in court anyway. If I get the vibe now of problem/unreasonable cuty. I'll decline the job, and frankly warn them about any other cleaners that would take it...

Only issue with this one is, its in a huge city church, a lot of Chiefs, not enough Indians.

I have an idea'er...

with a razor "surgically" slice off as much as you can without slicing fiber
Use mineral spirits to keep the blade clean and wet/lubed with mineral spirits

Once you've sliced as much off as possible, now use you hand tool and a can of WD-40 (maybe three ) to use as your "mini solvent pressure washer"

WD will emulsify the roof goo
Spray at an angle across the goo and right into your recovery tool

I discovered quite by happenstance how effective WD is at removing roof goo.
Years ago I was sealing a chimney flashing one afternoon .
Of course i got the sticky chit all over me
(my Mother, God rest her soul didn't call me "Pig Pen" for nothing)

I went to the carpet truck and grabbed some Flex and a towel....it removed very little from my hands .
Then grabbed the D'lime...not much there either.
I tried a half dozen chems and spotters with little to no success .

Then i remembered one of the Old Salts mentioning WD as an effective carpet spotter.
I grabbed the can from the tool box, sprayed my hands and the goo wiped off my hands LIKE MAGIC...
FO-REEL!!!

The angled spray and immediate recovery into you hand tool vac slot will prevent excessive solvent from permeating and spreading the emulsified goo.
no rubbing, no scrubbing, no saturating..... no pile distortion

Looks damn good on the drawing board, don't it???
whether it will work as envisioned.... I haven't a clue...

PEEE-ESSS....

WD IS flammable .
so i think I'd have a fair amount of water in the waste tank ..
and the sol line with a naked QD attached to give the vac hose a "wash" once in awhile

and maybe put out any fires from explosions

but I'd try that before I hammer ripped any fibers from the backing busting frozen gooooo

heat gun and scrape most of it off

then take it to a dry cleaner and he can remove the rest with compressed air and perk
