I spoke to Dave Nalley (the new owner of Steamway) about it. He thinks it's the cat' s meow. Says it's idiot proof and does a great job.

I have no reason to doubt him - he seems like a really stand-up guy. But, there's no way I'd slap down 500 bones for an upholstery tool unless I specialized in it and used it every day. And ...... well ....... like most people on this board ......... I hate doing upholstery. I'll clean it, but only at premium pricing.

Ah, the Cimex of the upholstery fabric world. shiteatinggrin

The secret that this tool has is in the agitation.

Soil is removed before fabric becomes saturated.

Now you are not pushing soil and solution through the fabric.

The fabric is only moist and dries in 10-15 minutes, before brown-out and color movement begin.

Marty, wherefore art thou.??

at least it looks to be made of stainless instead of the outrageously priced plastic ones...

Hey I love the Sapphire Upholstery tool!

I agree the SS looks like it will last forever.....but so will your carpel tunnel syndrome. :p

Seriously if you clean a lot of upholstery the "plastic" is the only way to go. Less fatigue allows to to clean for extended periods tiring and no elbow and forearm pain from a heavy tool.

I'm not opposed to plastic for an "upl" tool, Rich, cause they typically don't get the abuse a wand does.
I'm opposed to being GOUGED on price for products in this industry .
Once those molds are paid for, there's not much more than a few bucks in 'em..

Man you're a hard nut to crack!

Yes it's expensive but you're looking at cost not value.

If it cleans better, faster and with less fatigue then it's better than what the competitors have to offer. if you have something that is better, shouldn't a cost a little more?

I have this friend, a true craftsman, does impeccable work, I mean fine stuff, he deals with WOOD. Now should he sell his wares for the price of the materials he uses or the quality of the craftsmanship put into it. :p

Sorry Larry you know I love ya man!

31 years of experience with the PLASTIC Kleenrite tool, have only had to replace the few metal parts.

I think I'd like the Sapphire tool in a less plastic color, like grey or black.

There's something missing something in that analogy ....and that's the intangible of "craftsmanship"
That's why one BD can only get 7 cents a SF and another gets 37 SF.
Same for those hillbillies with a belt sander....

now when comes to TOOLS I'll grant you that efficiency is no small thing and worth a premium.
I'm also not anti profit to those in the biz of making wigits
But it leaves a real sour taste in my mouth to get GOUGED...knowing what i know about manufacturing

I can't see the underside of the tool in the picture. I don't understand how it works. No illustration either. Dave is very helpful and very experienced, so it is probably worth a look. Not sure I would give an A grade for marketing the tool to guys who need more info to draw their interest.

Since I got my HK tool, I enjoy doing uph
$500 to make several thousand throughout the year, every year, is a good deal

Be interesting to see it working, see how it works. They did a great job with the HK, interested to see how they beat it

Not everyone wants, needs or can afford a Porshe.

Give me a good 'ol dependable workhorse Ford that'll get the job done right at a reasonable price and I'm a happy camper.

Now, if you try to sell me a Ford at a Porshe price, well...... I lose interest pretty quick.

Some guys have to be the first to buy the newest, latest, coolest new gizmo as soon as it comes available - like those people who paid $800.00 for a VCR when they first came out (foolish if you ask me) - I'm just not one of those guys.

Doesn't anybody remember the coolest new toy a few years ago called a "Vortex"?
I know, I know - a Fast-N-Dry isn't going to put someone out of business, but it's the same concept - a WAY overpriced product.

I'm looking at one right now at my distributors, It's made well but of those that tried it not everyone liked it.

I may be able to try one out
while I'm waiting for my TM to get here and be installed.

pics?

with uph, I don't think I would want to use a Ford, to carry that analogy. If all I'm cleaning is herculon, then I could get away with it. But event the old Kleenrite, as good a tool as it is, was just too much pain and stress to use, unless I covered the room with drop sheets! I remember cleaning a dralene, and at 100psi with a Kleenrite it permanently distorted the fibres.

When something goes wrong, the extra $200 seems pretty cheep.

By all accounts those 1911 grips should cost $5.95.

Too funny, that was classic BUT those grips really should cost $5.95

In fairness to the over priced Sapphire tool Jon don has them for $449

Free enterprise is not about putting someone else out of business it's about someone else getting into the business and may the fittest survive. The ultimate form of an anti trust in business is a free market which they don't teach well in economics these days. Socialism seems to be the norm now.

Actually they do teach free market.
Free market in the US means that the big corporation and banks collect 100% of the profits when they are profitable.
Yet the tax payers bail them out when they're in trouble.
