As consumers, we do not really think about the need for branding. We just seem to roll with the flow of brand names that have become known with our daily living. But the impact of a name makes clear the importance of a brand when we advertise our business. Think about one of the world's most popular sport shoe companies, Nike. The importance of branding is exemplified by the fact that when you hear Nike, you think athletics and "Just Do It." A great brand name and association has catapulted Nike to the top of its industry.

When you are planning the name of your company, you need to remember the importance of branding. Deciding on a name is not a fluke, but instead is a well thought out process and analysis of names and meaning. The importance of branding begins with creating a simple name for your company. Consumers remember simple. Also, making sure your name can be associated with a positive value, characteristic, or position is part of the importance of branding. Consumers like products to which they can associate positive qualities.

Another aspect of the importance of branding is that your name must be different and unique. If your name is too close to another company's then people are likely to mix you up, which reduces revenue. Also, the importance of branding needs to be voiced to your employees so that your message is clear to all of your employees and the public. If you have a vision or goal statement, then you need to voice the importance of branding here also. Employees need to understand the importance of branding so that it is communicated in the office and to consumers every day. The message you are trying to get across in branding depends on your employees putting it out there to consumers.

Still don't think there is any importance of branding as it applies to your company? Well consider that brand name recognition can increase your profits by between 10 to 20 percent. If you are looking to increase your profits, then you may come to understand the importance of branding. Analyze the importance of branding and determine how you can use your name to promote positive qualities. Encourage your employees to learn about the importance of branding and to put the branding message out to the consumer. Believe in your brand name, what it means, and consumers will follow.

Wow very well said.

Now, did you figure this out before or after you started your company?
Not trying to be negative just wondering how your company name exemplifies(?) this.

Did others think of this concept before starting their company?

I did think this up before I started to choose the name and logo for my company. There were a few factors in my name selection that made it easier to choose what i wanted for instance the color scheme and name already existed in products I was looking at. My company exemplifies what I have said with a few characteristics XTREME is a very easy name to remember and I promote it to its fullest, everyone in my area knows"don't just get them clean, get them Xtreme clean"

The name Xtreme also brings out an intense thought, so if you are going to the extreme, you are taking as far to the boundaries as you can. I recently went on a golf trip with friends of mine and each one knew all my tag lines because Xtreme was such an easy thing to promote and taking my colors and logo it is pretty easy to see my brand

There can be other considerations that need to remembered when choosing a company name a few are: Web page/ search engine ranking. (Name of town and Carpet Cleaning would be a good choice.)Your type of market. For instance do you want to be "Thrifty Cleaning" or " Prestige Cleaning. A unique benefit, Fast Dry Carpet Care, Big Truck Cleaning, Oxy Cleaning, or Earth Friendly Cleaning.

Yellow page ranking is not as important as it used to be.( A1 Cleaning would be listed at the front of the heading and Xtream Cleaning would be at the end of the listing.)

Choose wisely. Prospective customers will choose your company based on the the emotion, feeling and professionalism your company's name, and ad copy convey.

Excellent post. I'm pretty big on branding and image. Learned alot about that after 8years with a ServPro franchise.
I struggled and struggled with my newest companies name to be sure I got it right. Now, after licensing and getting the shirts, i'm starting to rethink it again... lol
I went with our name "Restoration First" due to the fact that the name is exactly what we are marketing to our customers with. Promoting restoring VS replacing. We focus on restoration first in all our services.

I was recently involved in a bid meeting where a general contractor had stated to someone else in the meeting " yeah, you gotta watch some of those restoration companies. They can really put the screws to you".
I introduced myself and then said " Yes, it's unfortunate, but you kinda have to watch everyone these days. Just like some of those nail benders that like to get in and tear everything out so they can be paid to replace it weather it needed replacing or not." " We like to calm everyone down and make sure everyone is on the same page and then look at restoring and saving what can be restored first as in many cases, that's often the most cost effective way to proceed"

I got the smoke damage restoration project and utilized that same contractor for the repair portion. He's now a contact of mine....
Funny how some things work out........
