Anyone ever have second thoughts after a job about the service they provided? To the point it knaws at you? To the point that you call the customer and ask her if you can come back? Even though she was totally pleased with the job?

Occasionally I get so overwhelmed with a frustrating, problematic appointment that afterwards I second guess my cleaning performance. I feel like I get so pre-occupied with the problems that the actual cleaning suffers. I mean there is only so much I can do - nobody's perfect. Monday was one of those days. Feezing cold, I kept slipping on the driveway, tracking ice melt into the house, getting it all over me and the hoses, soulution line was frozen just in the 5 mins it sat on the ground, it was really frustrating. By the time I got the pre spray down i was in a terrible mood, really had it and wished I had rescheduled. All the while I was trying to keep a happy face for the customer but it was really hard. (She's a regular). The carpets came out fine, but after wards I second guessed my effort into removing a coffee spot. It was driving me crazy, really had me bummed the rest of the day. So I called the customer and asked her if I could have another go at it. I mean its my name on the side of the truck. I wish I could just find a way to cool down during the job so I can feel better about what I'm doing. I've been doing this for 17 years and still it can get to me on certain days. Can anybody relate? Going back tomorrow morning.

sounds less OCD and more like performance regret

after 17 years, you know what your best effort is and you mailed it in on that stain.

if you truly have OCD you picked a hell of profession .... seeing how nothing is ever totally 'clean' whatever the heck clean actually is defined as

On days like this I find a buff or two from a bowl by the vaccumm inlet does the trick.

Yes I have gone back and recleaned before. Even after they were a pain. You never know who they may spread the word too.

Just kidding about the buff you now.

Merry Christmas

When looking back , its easy to see how you could of been better on some jobs. You did your best, you did not need to return. Yes you are right, I also have regrets about certain things. Yesterdays job I think the customer thought I was a little on the pricey side. It bothered me a little. But I new It was fair. Just like I hope you delivered in your cleaning(good value). Owner operators are the best carpet cleaners. We deliver when others fall short. Stain did not come out ma'am, but did you see your stairs. They look wonderful! I hate call backs and rarely get them. I am sure you will make them happy. Good Luck, Ron

(Job was an hour drive away)

Had cleaned 2 bedrooms & a hall & had just pre sprayed the MBR when the belt on the TM broke (still had a large LR, office & FR to do), I don't haul around a portable anymore so I decided to absorb the prespray with cotton bonnets under the encap machine...I ended up pad capping the rest of the rooms, the carpet wasn't dirty at all & would have been fine but I just couldn't walk away, I didn't want rapid resoling from the prespray & since they had kids I want to HWE the entire house, when I called to tell her I needed to re clean some rooms she sounded a bit puzzled but I was glad I went back.

PS. I padcap high rises condos so my post is in no way a put down of that method.

James, I can relate to that, its because of high expectations, not to mention being a little paraniod, fortunately my standards are higher than the clients most of the time. But the feeling can eat at you sometimes, you wonder if you could have done more. You get that feeling because you care, thats a good thing.

Take a spare piece of 2 in vac hose and run your solution line through it. No worries about freeze ups. Never let it lay on the ground when it's below zero out. Even a minute and you're done.

I felt like that a couple of weeks ago when I was cleaning with the flu. I was trying hard but the carpet didn't clean up as well as I would like.
Worn olefin. I wanted to pull out the 175 and some pads but I just couldn't. Called, postponed the next job and went home to bed. When you need to go back to work on a stain, let them know that the chems work better on dry carpet.

That works until you clean for them next year, and an actual permanent stain is on their carpet, and you let them know it won't come out, and then they say, "You can just come back and do it, the chems work better on a dry carpet."
