How do you VLM practitioners avoid distorting the texture of cut pile? Not only "tip blooming", but causing clumps or knots that are difficult or impossible to brush out? I was told by one distributer to use Gladiator pads, and another told me to use glider/ smooth micro pads. But I manage to distort with both, even with the old plastic disks in the middle of the pads. I think I'm using enough solution to lube the carpet. The old TuWay pads don't distort, but aren't very effective.

I almost always HWE cut-pile, but would like to also VLM, when practical.

Much obliged.

VLM was designed for interim commercial cleaning. Somewhere along the line, a hack thought it was good for residential.

Thats my take anyway.

Have at it Mikey....

Do what you want. I don't really give a shit.

There's a surprising amount of very clean residential that will pay big bucks to have their spots go away without all the hooplaa of running trucks, open doors and long dry times.

But alas, you need to understand.

I buffed a lot of cut pile in my Chem who days. I already knew how to run a buffer so it wasn't a big deal. Just brush out the swirls before it dries.
Not sure about clumps but it may be your technique. Try working them out with the machine maybe.

Yep.
He mentioned he wanred to vlm some carpet. I've never op d a carpet but buffing is safe imo.
I understand there is more of a learning curve.

Nice try though.

On cut nylon the safest bet are Tuways. Lowest friction of any pad. You can do wool broadloom with them. Either pre or post CRB if you feel the need. I agree they don’t appear to be effective, but they are good enough. I think they are underrated because you don’t see the soil, but I have done tons of testing on pads and now keep only two pads on the truck for my orbital cleaning. One is the Tuway even though I don’t use it very often. What pad you use with rotary and orbitals will differ in effectiveness and with orbitals it also differs whether it’s a brush driver or velcro. Any pad talk without context is useless. BTW, I never use fiber pads with any of my orbitals. Even on trashed carpet. Rotaries, yes, fiber pads are useful. I wish BonnetPro still made the wool bonnets. They were amazing.
