Our guys make way more money on Minnesota unployment then we can really match... And up until end of July.

MN... Land of 10,000 taxes and "Warm Fuzzy Care Bear we will take care of you to sit at home and do nothing"

Governor waffled yesterday in opening up the State. Only allowing workers with no real contact back to work... And a lot of those workers mad... More money sitting and collecting.

Putting us in a bad position. Our kids get it and know we need to work if want to keep this business alive to have a living... But it really sucks being put in this position! We are tying to come up with a solution... And as with many, no small business owners help... Many local businesses not even as fortunate as us to at least have some income coming in to try and cover some business expenses.

This might get moved into a different room if gets too political....

Just want to share a current business problem for us. Best wishes to all going through this too.

And this article came up last night

I don't know about MN, but here in N.C. you have to recertify every single week by answering questions on the unemployment website, including how much money they made. That amount is then deducted from the unemployment check. Legally if they are offered work then they have to take it.

Tell those boys they can go to jail for providing fraudulent info. to the unemployment office. I know you hate to make good employees mad but if they can't be faithful to your company and get back to work then it might be time for some of them to hit the road. You have a business to run. I'm glad you are getting busy.

Maybe you could find a few others who run their own business to help out a few days a week. Plenty of guys out there who would love some work. I would come work for you if you were closer.

I would check into your local business relations and find the guys who can’t work in their field and hire em on. I’m sure there’s a lot of them that aren’t getting monies yet.

You might have to babysit more but might be worth the extra labor. And I know I probably wouldn’t be hiring some people back after this crisis that’s for sure.

Especially if you’ve been good to them.

Sorry to hear you guys are goin through it. Our guys want to work and not sit home.

If they are complaining about coming back to work, they are not good employees(family or not). Maybe a little lesson that it is the businesses that fund the unemployment coffers. Even if you do not get directly it comes out of the insolvency fee.
The unemployment rates are going to skyrocket in the future to dig out of this hole.
As usual the small business person will be stuck paying for the state’s generosity.

When they want to come back after the unemployment runs out which should take long cut their pay in half. There will be plenty of help then.

We have FUBAR”d this economy

unemployment is going to be ridiculously high until this stimulus ends in July

you can’t just drop an extra $600 / week in someone’s lap without an unintended consequence

Underground economy is going to explode

tru-dat

here's a personal experience ....circa '78-'79 and TRA (trade readjustment act)a fed program
Paid $250 a week additional to the state unemployment .
I qualified due being an auto worker ..laid off

I was getting like $8-$12 dollars more a week than my 40 hour take home pay.
State required look for work 2 jobs a week.
No stipulations where you had to look though...so was putting down places like union carpenter/electrician/mining/iron workers outfits, Exxon, Mobile, IBM, NASA etc

two weeks before the cheese was to run out, I went out a found a job

and since everyone here is straight as an arrow, I won't mention I was roofing and doing other cash jobs under the table for beer money

with the $600 a week fed cheese, plus state cheese, MOST laid off will be making more (and many substantially more ) a week than their job.

a guy would have to be an idiot to seriously look for work

The thing is if I furlough you and you refuse to come back to work you would lose all your benefits. Anybody with the see you in July attitude won’t fly with me.

I get that, Kent
but lots of biz's won't be full tilt for quite some time.
and more than a few will fold all together

I don't know what you pay your guys, how you treat them or how long they've been with you.
But loyalty to "your" bottom line only goes so far when they're looking at a $1000 a week for doing nothing compared to $600 take home a week for 40 hours sucking rugs

they have to do what they have to do, but it would be a damn bitter pill

does anyone know HOW they came up with an additional $600 weekly bump?

I understand for furloughed full timers that were making $1500 week , the $600 offsets the unemployment reduction but most , of not ALL part timers are making out like bandits

Kent, you are correct about people coming off the system when employment picks up, but that will be left to the employers and the agency to police compliance

the fraud and lethargy to return to wrk before August is going to be monumental

Business Unemployment insurance premiums are going to be the new health care premiums

which will be a serious headwind to re-employment and additional hiring for small businesses

Ok-- Looks like I'll be the one who gets this post moved to a different room.

I was a sticking point for the Dems-- Schumer and Pelosi
The bill was stalled until the additional $600 was approved.
I guess they figured it was only fair that the Citizens should get a little extra Cheese if Big businesses were getting a bigger block of cheese.

The "Open Now" protests are funded/organized by wealthy people who want to force their workers back to work.
These poor workers will be forced to give up the extra cheese for the benefit of the wealthy.
Most citizens are not ready to return to normal.

Another thing that is f'd up IMO are these $1200 stimulus checks going to people that I feel do not need them.
I know of at least a dozen people who have not lost their job, still getting their government dole, not effected in any way from covid 19 but receiving checks.
I know they are to Stimulate the economy but people are spending them with businesses that are still open or operating.

How does this help stimulate the economy of the numerous businesses that are shut down?

I owed an additional $10 k for 2019

they aren’t giving us anything but OUR money

at this rate , I’ll be lucky to receive it before my next quarterly payment is due ... which is significantly higher than this stimulus pittance

:headscratch: Why would you be getting a Stimulus check? I would think your income is too high. I thought you were a "Baller"

No check for me-- my income is too high.
Maybe next year I'll qualify--:eekk:

Exactly. First quarter is bumped out in due date but 2nd quarter is still due on time and it’s before first quarter.

Also I understand employee payroll tax can be waived this year and spread over the next two years. We will use that for sure
