I have always paid salary . From now on I am going to go base pay plus %.

I was thinking $1000 a month plus 20% of the job.

What do you do?

I think it all depends on what you're gross income is every week. Are you making $2500/week with some room to increase or is your setup bringing in $5000/week?

And what does your current employees think about this change? Or are you starting fresh with new people?

Always done salary per month, which increases in the busy season but stays at a set amount through slower season.

This has me thinking I want to try some sort of base plus %.

Why is salary better than hourly wage in this business?

back when we had employees we were strictly hourly. When we joined STOP (Mack Clark) we switched to commission. MAN was there an uproar so I said lets stay at hourly for one month but keep an eye on what you would have made if we went to commission. After a week, they begged to go to commission.
