The walls will have a water proof dry wall about 4 feet up.

The 17 x 15 pit is out of the frame.

This is the small one.

There is a sump pump hole right that there.

How does the pit fill with water if there is a hole in the bottom? If you plug the hole, wont any rug you place in the pit be sitting in dirty or urine filled water? I know the general idea is to have a river effect with clean water coming in and the dirty water going down the drain hole. How much flow can you get in a pit like that, and what do you use to pump water into the pit? A waterhose?

Hole, not drain.

A sump pump fits in the hole.


Turn off the pump and the pit fills up.

I used cement board for bathroom tile work as a backer it works very well

Like Randy, I am surprised that a Tree Hugger would put an expansion joint in a wash pit.

Waste of a lot of money! My pit that I made only cost $68 dollars and I can break it down
if I need more room.

Remember not all rugs need to be pit washed!!!

I only do the urine soak rugs .

Mikey,

If your talking about the green drywall, it is water resistant, NOT waterproof.

I would do as Randy suggested. Use cement board, thinset and tape the joints.

That is water proof!
