Got a call from a superintendent this morning. They need a new portable machine. They do their own carpet cleaning. The supt. called asking me what brand I would recommend. Honestly, I have only used our portable (3 times) and I have no clue on which is the best one for the money. Basically - you guys that have portable experience and would like to reply with the brand \ make, etc. that you like, please say so. Not looking where to purchase - just the brand, please.

Thanks!

yes EDIC for a stand alone, the full size units if they will be using it a lot.

Interlinks' big units are nice as are Sapphire's new line up.

Since most class rooms have utility sinks maybe a Rotovac CFX system to "Avoid the bucket brigade"..

For sheer simplicity and sailor-proof, an Advance Aqua-clean or similar. Teach them to use a decent encap in it and voila! They can barely screw it up.

Well, they will screw it up, but less than turning 'em loose with hose, wand, portable and chemical combos.

I thought I had convinced you to send me some nice things, but come to think of it, we never did discuss what that meant.

I had a Bentley in mind, or a ride on the Chavez Lear jet.

Curses, foiled again!

My wife used to work in schools on weekends, supervising other activities the maintenance guys had all the latest machines for resilient floors. Propane buffers, ride on machines, auto scrubbers, y name it. They had all their course certification on the walls and yet they managed to burn all all tiles in the hallways

I used walk behinds in the time I worked for the school district.

Cleanfreak has a nice price on one for around $1300

Easy to fill and dump.
Takes no time at all to run back to a slop sink and fill and dump
Most have a 100 psi pump and one 3 stage vac.
Optional hook ups with a hand tool to do chairs.

I did a water job at the school back in January. They have good equipment for a rural school. They are used to using a portable and just want to know what the best is in today's market. I loved walking into the flood and all the desks were moved and nothing but empty classrooms and they were busy extracting... Just went over it again with the zipper, so I could get the $$$$.

That's cool Amy!

I was sincere in them getting a simple machine. I don't be believe them getting a better machine will necessarily mean a better end product.

Without a motivated operator it may just cause more harm than good. ???

We use to use a portable not sure what brand now I was a kid. Used a drag wand and a 5 gallong bucket with the lid punched full of holes.

Carpets always looked great even after 20 years of that. Also used pile lifters to vacuum daily.

I agree..
janitors should stick to cleaning toilets-- but when they want to try to clean carpets-- a walk behind might the best setup for them.
Janitors are often very Intelligent knowledgeable and hard working. Cleaning toilets is entry level. We had to know about boilers masonry bus mechanics fence builders lawn maintenance build and maintain baseball feilds football feilds.

Electricians plumbers and even counselors. We are just carpet cleaners.

My first steady job at 13 was as a janitor in my Dad's church. Sure do wish that all these decades later I could be any of what Steve just wrote, but hey, I like the attitude!

Go to your closet supply house but keep it simple for the lack of knowledge for the people using it, I have a EDIC and the 1cord wit 2-3 stage vacs gives great drying times and the 200 psi pump would work fine. Try Cobb supply in Tx. if it;s close.jz.

Sapphire / Versaclean has 200 psi w / wo heat .....500 adjustable psi w/wo heat both have a 6.6 Ametec lamb HP vac motors with 140 CFM and 140 inch of water lift......also Versaclean makes a Versacarpet that is a self contained walk behind with a "Hoss 700" 15" rotary extraction cleaning head......the head has 5 poly vac shoes and 5 staggered spray bars turning at 140 rpm equals 700 cleaning paths per min.
It is an auto /direct fill and auto pump out with a 200 ft hose running capability.

See all above equipment at www.legendbrands.com and look under "brands" and then click on Versaclean or Sapphire to see the new portables.
