We have had a request to clean a sectional couch. As we always do, we ask pointed questions, and try to get as much information as possible before we book the job.
This particular piece has some confusing labels. On the actual piece, it’s says to use either solvent cleaners, or HWE.
As we dug further, the client sent us this from the manufacturer….

@Jim Pemberton , can you please help me decipher this information? IMG_6752.png

I remember once cleaning a sofa, loveseat and a chair set with matching fabric. One had a solvent clean only tag, one had a wet clean only and one had an X code, meaning no cleaning expect brushing and vacuuming.

I have since understood that it is highly dependent on the upholsterer to put the correct tag on and sometimes that means whatever they have handy.

With that mix of fibers, you can expect shrinkage and buckling as each fiber will dry at a different pace if you use hwe. Solvent cleaning doesn't clean as well but might be more appropriate or a low moisture system.

That’s what I was thinking myself.
Don’t you just love it when manufacturers mix both natural and synthetic materials together?

The only way I touch viscose is with VLM. I never spray the fiber directly. I only apply encap product to my microfiber buff pad, or my rag. Good luck!

As above.

The manufacturer’s recommendations are rarely helpful, and the biggest risk here is likely the puckering/dimensional changes.

Very low moisture cleaning with a product that won’t leave a stiff or sticky residue would be my choice.

There may be limitations on how clean it becomes, but it will surely be better than with dry solvent cleaning

We VLM cleaned a number of the items of upholstery at the Ronald McDonald House yesterday, and most all of them came as clean as those that were cleaned by HWE. We had some cushions that had spilled drinks on them that came out better when rinsed, but otherwise our results were perfect.
