Radar?

Since we all drive a lot, I am in need of a new radar detector. Any suggestions?

Radar detectors are a false sense of security to feel comfortable speeding.. I had my last one 10 years ago and then I got hit by laser.

Do you have your van lettered nice? I speed(a little) all the time and find they give some slack to work vehicles. .

The big rigs know EVERYTHING that's going on for miles around and they let it be known, as their livelihood depends on it.

They can also be kind of fun to play with, especially an "export" radio from Canada which is not bound by the power limitations of domestic brands.

You just can't crank your Celine Dion's Greatest Hits CD as much.

I have a Kook friend who's all into CB Radio's....... He can talk with Australia, Japan, and some other foreign places...... He can also fry electronics if he key's up in neighborhoods.......... Don't piss him off..... I always thought "why don't they just pick up the phone or go on the internet"...

I was also looking into a laser jammer...http://www.blinder.net/blinder_m45.htm I've been good since I got a reckless driving back in 2005...... $25,000 to keep my license, I learned to wise up.....

I been tempted to try a radar jammer, I really dont get very many ticket though. I just try to do 8-9 over and call it good.

I find them useless around here. There is so much going on around the freeways (automatic doors etc) that it's not reliable. Not to mention that most all our freeways are 4-5-6-11 lanes in one direction and traffic is allowed to flow well over the 65mph speed limit. Often CHP rides in the midst of all the cars speeding 75-80mph.
Sometimes they get one car out and say: it was your turn, even though everyone was/is speeding the same way.
They'll get you here more for "cell phone in hand" type offenses. $178 later I even learned...To keep an eye on them...and my phone. Lol.

ok, here is the scoop on detectors. I'm a fan of them and have been since the day I turned 16. I cant even count how many I have owned. They have come a long ways in technology. The very best for the money and the only one I would buy is an Escort. I have both the 9500 ix and the Newest Passport max. I like the max much better.
As far as the false reading go, I just drove from New Orleans, Louisiana back to Utah on the 4th of July. Not a single false reading. I was lasered 2x, But honestly 95% of the time police use KA band laser, and the other 4% they use K band. I might get lasered 1x per year. With the newest escort passport max , it has a GPS in it with all the traffic cameras nation wide programed into it as well as speed traps. It also memorizes any false readings you get, which is rare and only on X radar which you can block. Police dont use X radar any more.
I have been coming through southern Montana where there is barely any trees or shrubs which absorbs radar, I was able to pick up a highway patrol at 5 miles out. Even in a big city though I can normally pick up police at close to mile away. Doesn't matter if they are hiding over a hill or behind a building. the passport max will detect them. My highway patrol friend is the one who recommended the passport max to me. Apparently, its well known among the Highway Patrol that this is the best technology around. It is expensive though.

couple other things it does. You can mark a location where cops sit by pushing a button. When you are within 1000 ft it will remid you and count down the feet to that point. The traffic camera thing is really nice feature as well. There is a motorcycle setup as well.

Last ticket i got was in 1986 I had a brand new RX-7 and my girlfriend (now Wife) pulled up next to me and revved her engine. I hit it hard and got about a block...and then Hi-Po got me. 65 in a 35 .

My girlfriend/Wife drives by laughing at me.

Hadn't had one since.
