Yes, if fabric is still damp when brushing. If this is a problem you are trying to correct, wet it down first.

Re: Will a steamer and velvet or carding brush get the

I cleaned a dralene fabric years ago, 1992, it looks very much like a cheap synthetic velvet. The pressure from the Kleenrite uph tool, 100psi with a Ninja, was enough to blast/distort the weave. There was no brushing it out even when re-wet.
At least that was what I was told at the time by the more "experienced" cleaner that came to examine it. Never had it happen since.

The real key is not so much the carding action...

But to go three ways fully in all directions then follow through with the grain...

This way all fibers are on the same sheet in regards to proper directional lay iof nap when dry...

Mist litely ,but uniformly, force dry also...

I have witnessed too many instructors doing it or explaining it poorly .In regards to carding ,it is a art unto itself...

An upholstery class teaches to always brush out and leave no marks.

Big difference in approach if its cotton/rayon or a synthetic like acrylic.
Acrylics can usually be done with an extractor and brush.
The naturals need to be lofted and I use a gloved hand rather than a brush of any sort.

If all else fails use a hand held steamer with a clean white towel over the head.

No mater how much you Groom the A frame drying and home owner or in this case CFO of House Management will most likely screw up the nap on Velvets and Chenilles...

Mike,

The hardware store here in Woodside is very accommodating to horse
owners, they have a big selection of tack including grooming tools. The
brush I got is supposed to be for grooming a horse but worked great on
the upholstery!

The headboard looks good, I used the brush on it too, just to get the
fibers all in the same direction.

The cushions that were a little bristly have softened right up again and
are very silky feeling.

Ok - I will let you all know about the carpets once everyone here gets
back in town.

The $1,500 minimum isn't a problem. I am sure you are correct in your
thinking that there could be more to do...

Thanks,
Lisa

Re: Will a steamer and velvet or carding brush get the

spent 51/2 hours yesterday with steamer and carding brush and bare hand in the edges. Its a 6,ooo dollar couch and customer was pleased with outcome but wanted to wait till today for final outcome, even though it was dry when leaving.

The velvet brush was too course, carding brush ok but had to be lighthanded.

Any of you know where a narrow version of the carding brush can be got, something of the style of the velvet brush but with the softer thinner bristles. Getting in the corners and edges.
One thing i've learned from this is not having all your brushes in van at all times is costly.

Lee, you mentioned gloved hand, do you mean Latex or an another type?

Thanks to all for the input.

Terry
