Credit cards open up more customers for you. Some people like using their cards as they get air miles or other points. Yes you pay a fee but it just opens you up to so many more people.
I make the customer pay the fee. But I let them know before hand when booking the appointment. I charge 4%

Not sure if that's ok by the credit card people. I got the idea that if they found out, they could cancel your privileges. I read somewhere that that's about to change.

I agree people like using them but I disagree it opens you up more.
I've only had a few over the years go on about the cc perks but they still write me a check. And u have plenty of corporate accounts that send checks. It just takes longer to get paid.

I have a very small, but affluent customer base. About 75% of them Venmo me. Once in a blue moon I’ll lose a customer for not taking credit cards, and that’s because they don’t have the money to get their carpet cleaned. I don’t care about those customers.

I'm thinking of charging this fee as well. But Credit card users are more likely to tip, so I don't want to discourage their use of credit cards.

More and more businesses around here are charging a fee for credit card usage.
Guess everyone is getting tired of paying the banks.
And here we thought we were working towards a cashless society.

If the card just says Visa, fine. If someone tries to use a Sierra Club or other "affinity" high percentage rate card, I say go ahead and charge them for making you pay for their charities.

Otherwise, I'd rather quote a discount for cash.

I went to Subway the other day and was informed they no longer take cash.

This weekend I was at two stores Lowes was one and they couldn't process cards. Cash only.
I don't carry a CC.
If they won't take my cash no problem someone else will.

And no discounts for cash. It's my price regardless.

I'm with Costco business services,

They use elavon and they were about 1 1/2 % and .12 cents a transaction.

They sent me a notice saying they're gonna charge 4.5% now.

That's nuts.

That's AMEX fees
