I know this topic has been discussed, but I can't find it with the search.

I spoke to a Roots factory tech many years ago who told me that the exact viscosity was important with the DSLs because if too heavy it could bend the vanes that sling the oil and too light was bad, too. I didn't bother to remember the exact specs because Roots brand oil was locally available at the time.

Does anyone know these specs and whether there is a readily-available (Napa, Car Quest, et.al.) exact equivalent?

I know there are other comparable brands but why not use Roots Blower oil? How old is your PowerClean? When I bought mine they said they would extend the Roots factory warranty if I used Roots oil at schedualed oil changes. I don't think there is anything special about Roots oil, fact these blowers are bullet proof and if you just use any good oil and change as required your good to go. I've been using some Amsoil product in an old Roots 45 for many years.

I'm not aware of Roots oil available locally.

51/2-year-old Freedom 47.

What Amsoil product do you use? Do you buy it locally or do you have to mail-order it?

Specs here: http://www.pdblowers.com/admin/uploads/ ... luboil.pdf

You are unlikely to find the specified oil type in a synthetic at an auto parts store. Try a lubricating oil distributor. But be prepared for 5 gallon pail stocking sizes.

However, you will likely find a suitable petroleum substitute in such a place. Roots gives a wider latitude for petroleum base lubes for blowers still under warranty. But do you really want the short change-out interval of the petroleum base oil?

Try here for your requirements.:

Good catch, FCC.

Link(s) fixed.
Consider that in a closed van, especially under load condition that ordinarily exists, ambient is likely to be predominantly over 90 degrees, thereby indicating 320 ISO.
