From what I understand it takes 20 seconds for UV light to start to destroy the DNA of germs and dust mites. That is 20 seconds IN ONE SPOT. Nobody but Ron vacuums that slowly! It would take all day to vacuum a house with that thing to actually get the sanitizing effects they advertise.

I've seen UV machines like this before, one was from a company called Mitebusters. They had a UV light they would run over mattresses and carpet to kill all the little buggers.
There probably is something to it.

However, I'm not vacuuming to remove the bacteria, thats what the HWE does. I do it to remove the dry particulate and that Oreck probably does a crappy job.
