sealers that bead up water on grout

Has anyone tried miracle sealer 511? I was fixing to buy some dupont on amazon and started reading the reviews. The miricle 511 reviews were better than the dupont stone tech reviews.

Your correct about never guarantee anything, but you can always tell a crap product from a good one.

A properly sealed surface doesn't necessarily mean it will profusely bead water. All sealers will bead after application and slowly lose the beading ability over time, some faster than others. This is not a good indication of whether or not it is still working well.

511 does a great job with beading and initial performance. It is very possible things have changed over the years, but I despise this product. It has been known to generate a film, attract dirt and yellow lighter color surfaces. 511 was a huge portion of the sealer used where I am at and we had a real problem with white marble and limestone floors that were sealed with it. This is over the course of the last 10 years, and I haven't dealt with one for a few years, so if they changed their formula in the last 5 years or so, then it's likely not an issue anymore.

A lot of people love 511 and that's fine. If it works for you, good. You want to use a great sealer? There are many to choose from.

I think that's by the gallon like a lot of certain solvent sealers here, they have to sell them in quarts.

That was years ago. Aquamix and Stone Tech went through the same thing. It was either reformulate to be VOC compliant for their gallons, or stop selling gallons in CA. They all reformulated their flagship sealers and they have never been as good since. Ultrasolv and Impregnator Pro used to be incredible products.

I definitely appreciate the time you took to reply Cameron, for natural stone I will stay with products like stone pro. But for good ol' sanded grout. I'm just on the hunt for the one that won't leave me trying to explain myself to the customer. I've used viper premium, viper concrete and grout, dupont stone tech, Cobb's Ultra seal, and I'm going to try 511 next.

heck, even $300 a gallon Dry Treat Stain Proof lets water in after a few days.

I use Dry Treat Stain Proof in my home or if a customer asks for it by name or has given me a "blank check" & told me they want the best.

If you like the Dry Treat Stain Proof, try Prosoco SLX100. It is the same type of sealer and a lot less expensive. The DT warranty is absolute dogshit, from what I have heard 1st hand from people trying to get the warranty honored over the years. The way they approach it is basically "if it failed you applied it wrong"

It's a good sealer, but I'll put the SLX100 against it any day

Both are formulated to specifically react with silica. While they will work fairly well on limestone and marble, they excel with concrete, granite, sandstone and quartzite.

I never used DT's warranty as a selling point so I never bothered becoming an accredited applicator.

Cameron, thanks for the SLX100 tip, looks like a good alternative.
