I agree completely with Les.

The problem is the use of a steel that is not stainless.

We have also seen many blower silencers on slide-in TM's,
clogged by corrosion of the internal steel parts.
It causes the blower to overheat.

All blower silencers should be made of stainless steel ...
if you expect them to last more than a year and a half or so ...
with wet detergent run thru them every day.

Stainless steel forever.

Les,

we cut one of ours open today based on your advice... Guess what we found? A totally different inside.... It has been totally redesigned and this is in a 2006 model.

Sorry i was so disgusted that I just walked away!!! I will post pictures tomorrow!!!!

Now please redeem yourself and answer my original question. What year was this silencer from and how many hours... Seems like an easy enough question.

If you own a Butler and would like to check to see if you have an issue like this, go to the auto parts store and get a pocket thermometer. Drill a very tiny hole in the pipe leaving your blower. Insert the thermometer in the hole, start the unit, allow it to run for about 10 minutes to come up to operating temperature. Your blower exhaust temperature should not be over 275 degrees. If you are experiencing excess temperature, you now have a remedy for that problem.

If your blower temp was over 275 degrees, then you have air restriction in the system. post the photos you have and I will take a look and see if we can find it.

thanks

LES

So Hanna, you didn't take a temp reading before you hacked into the silencer?

It was an April Fools joke that went horribly wrong.

No it wasn't Art, it was just Les lending a helping hand with instructions not exactly benefiting the average ADD carpet cleaner.

But good advice none the Les.

I think that was a decent post by Les, makes me wonder how many Butler owners have spent thousands to replace a blower they assumed was worn out only to find it had no effect, the problem was the silencer.

We had a muffler already off of a truck we were working on...

I showed the pictures to a couple of my maintenance staff and one of younger guys decided to go ahead and cut it open, just to see. No big deal, it just wasted an hour or so.... They have already rewelded it, so I couldn't take pictures..

It does appear that Butler redesigned the insides after the one you have was made. We did not notice any of the corrosion that Leslie was showing in his pictures.
