Sewer backup in my own Rent a House!!

Had a sewer loss today except it was my own rent house. Basement is unfinished and our company cleaned it up.. Question for u guys is.... It was the city's main that stopped up therefore it is was the city's fault!! So would u go after the city and file a tort claim with city and try to get them to pay up or just eat it???

Our city seems to deny every claim unless blatantly liable. You have to include your counselman to get support. Even if they accept some responsibility they pay off receipts and compensate you for your time but would not allow you to make a profit ofc your own property. Not all cities handle claims like this but our city is tough on claims.
