Shaw Industries to use ICRA certification for Referral program

Sacramento, CA – The International Cleaning and Restoration Association (ICRA) has announced that it entered into an understanding with Shaw Industries to provide a referral program through its Registered Firm and Certified Cleaner Network. Additionally, an online basic skills exam will be developed for the carpet cleaning basic skills training course offered by Shaw as part of its Total Care program.

For those Shaw Total Care certified technicians that already have STC certification, ICRA will recognize (grandfathered in) the certification. Shaw Total Care certified technicians can go to http://icrassociation.org/certification/STC , complete the application, upload a copy of your STC certificate and pay a fee of $25.00 USD. An ICRA Basic Skills certificate will be mailed the following workday.

For those certified cleaners that wish to have their certification(s) from other certifying organizations recognized, you can go to http://icrassociation.org/certification/icra-certification, complete the form, upload a copy of your certificate or ID card and submit a flat fee of $40.00 USD no matter how many certifications you have.

Certified Firms can also have their certification recognized by ICRA by going to: http://icrassociation.org/certification/registered-firm-application

To learn more about the ICRA Comprehensive Certification Program, you can go to: www.icrassociation.org , go to Training and Certification tab and select from the drop down menu the program that you wish to read about or apply for.

how do i get my certs switched over to the ICRA?
if i get a new cert from the other certifier after i switch how do i add that to the ICRA, and how much to switch the bulk of them, and how much to just switch 1? Im waiting on 1 cert to come in but it may take months to actually get to me.

I'm Still waiting on my new IICRC Card, not happy about that. think they should discount my fee if they cant provide the service i pay for.

If it works like the IICRC's did for me, it will bring you a client or two every five years. The very occasional warranty call (at a rip off price and long wait for the pay with extra paper work to boot) and in my experience, these warranty calls clients never turned into long term ones.

And people use it as another marketing aid (credibility) to help differentiate themselves from the crowd. You can be on their web site, which may help a little with Google.

That pretty much sums up what my impression has been, though I've never been certified.

One of my local competitors uses his certifications to try to add credibility to his business. I've just deduced that if it were something beneficial for him he wouldn't have to resort to coupon advertising.

If they act as the cleaners advocate it will be worth it.
If they do some promotion (the Shaw move is good) and create public awareness, it may be worth it.

Otherwise it will be like flushing money down the toilet.

In 26 years in business I had about five people ask me about it. I may be over estimating the number.
Likely to help if you nurture a relationship with a a place that sells carpet.

I've found that the best certification is found in Google reviews. I think consumers believe their neighbors more than they believe an impersonal industry entity.

That said, I'm sure certification does no harm and can only be a positive attribute to one's business.

I have never been asked in 24 years. If i was asked, I'm a good enough communicator to overcome any such objection.

The education you receive from the classes are worth every penny. Belonging to an organization has value, how much depends how high your expectations are.

$40.00... $100... really can't do much to change your business. Attending training, meeting your peers can make huge differences in business. But then so can gleaming info from this board.

Does having your number on speed dial count? It's just as good as going to a class....

I believe it's an imperative in this business

In fact, I ONLY hire landscapers, maids ,painters and other misc. low skilled workers that have college degrees

nobody knows?

There is no such thing.......yet.........the total care is Shaw product support

Additionally, an online basic skills exam will be developed for the carpet cleaning basic skills training course offered by Shaw as part of its Total Care program.

now another org has weaseled their way into leveraging warranty and support language to funnel carpet cleaners into their "education" system

I will try answer a few of your questions about the Shaw Total Care Certification

1. The training that leads to the STC certification is presented by Shaw Industries.
2. While the number of referrals that come through us from Shaw only amounts to an average of 3 to 6 per week, it is at least a start in the right direction.
3. If you are interested in the STC program contact Jim Mannes, National Director of 'Shaw Total Care' at Jim.mannes@shawinc.com
4. Since ICRA is both a trade association and a certifying body it can and is advocating for the cleaner and restorer.

ICRA is working on developing programs that help generate relationships between the industries that ICRA represents and their target markets. It takes time to develop new programs. ICRA is a work in progress and is trying to be innovative and responsive to the cleaning and restoration industry's concerns.

If you have questions or comments, feel free to send us an email at info@icrassociation.org and we will respond. The ICRA office phone number is 916-758-5242. We will answer the phone or call you back quickly.

Hum-- Since Shaw's biggest customer is Home Depot who I believe owns "Chemwho" will they be unbiased in their referrals?

I can assure you that all the referrals referenced in the press release are from the ICRA database and not from Shaw. We are primarily using our Registered Firms and certified individuals.

Hopefully that answers your question.
