View attachment 75732 View attachment 75731 I cleaned this 20 year old never cleaned couch last week. I could have grabbed my PMF or Shear-dry tool but I felt I need the best cleaning performance on this one so I chose to use the Hydro-kinetic.
You are right, Sam, it does have more of a bite. I didn't look close enough, I wonder if it is related to how smooth the plastic that touches the surface is? If that is the case, I wonder if you can fine sand it.
I'll check, next time I pull it out.
It does not seem to leave the two lines the SS tool does on delicate fibers. I definitely have not worked with it as much as the SS.
It was a strange one. Glad they were pleased.
Its a good tool that in some ways is better than the SS tool (better flush, slightly better ergonomics, better trigger, and it will allow better detailing, reaching into tighter spaces etc).
However it will over spray (unless you find a blind that perfectly matches it's width.) If it did not over spray, imho it will be the top tool.

I was running about 400 psi with 3/8 inch solution hose. The jet is a number 3. As I recall my temperature was set at 200 with 100 feet of hose. I have used the Hydrokinetic since it was first introduced 33 years ago. What pressure & temp; please Loren??
I absolutely love my HydroKinetic also, depending on the fabric & soiling.
Wish I had of listened to that Steamway New England guy well over a decade ago, & bought one back then.
Horses for courses, so I keep the HK, SS, SD & Mytee in the van at all times.

This fast action is quite different from my approach with the Hydrokinetic tool. I often move the tool slowly. Possibly due to design differences that allow the hydrokinetic to work well at slower speeds without overwetting.
Come over to my house. My moose of a dog has broken most of them.Don’t see blinds like that much
Is there any way you could post a pic of the Hydro-kinetic? I’ve bought some used gear, and it came with 4 OLD uph tools.... I have NO idea what they are.View attachment 75732 View attachment 75731 I cleaned this 20 year old never cleaned couch last week. I saw that after I posted. I will take some pics of the tools....Why not post a pic of your tools so that we may identify them for you.
PS:: If you look above, you'll see that Loren has posted a pic of the HydroKinetic.![]()

I do both.
I love the fact I can adjust the flow on my SS
I keep my Shear Dry at around 400 psi and the valve wide open. One reason I don't have issues is I keep the tool on the upholstery, not over the open air. Extraction works better when the tool is on the fabric.
Sam the bite is the agitation bar right in the center of the tool face. That is one of the features I love about the Shear Dry tool. The fabric is agitated both directions as you make extraction passes. And the suggestion to maybe sand down the bar will get you buying a new one sooner than later. The nozzles that aim forward and backward are in that bar. That's why it's placed there. It's raised to agitate and rinse the fabric. The Shear Dry for me is best described as a dual directional hydrokinetic that's much lighter and easier to move.
I keep wondering why there is so much emotion instead of empirical comparisons on performance and function. I thought we lived in America where innovative improvement is the sole reason technologies keep getting better. Too many forget how improvements are made... BY MAKING A GOOD IDEA EVEN BETTER. Someone copied the first truck mount and well we've got dozens of new designs and improvements. If no patent was infringed upon then copy away. I copied the tool Prochem had with their first hard surface cleaner, made it lighter, easier to use, and yes WAY cheaper. Then 5 companies copied mine. I'm not offended in fact flattered is a better way to look at things. We had to change the way we made the tool so we could compete. Only one infringed on the patent then retracted the infringement and life goes on. In the arena where free enterprise exists get smart and improve or dig in and remain stationary. Finding and using better tools, chemistry or technique is what makes us better cleaning professionals. Some of These "KNOCK OFFS" made some improvements and others were just worthless. Let the marketplace decide. Get over it! This isn't Socialist Russia or China.
