pretty much just by experience. You have to remember that you have to remove the source of the odor first. The ozone penetrates areas where cleaning agents may not be able to go. The ozone gas will go everywhere that smoke can go and oxidize it. I use mine primarily for cigarette smoke and cooking odors. In a suite, I will leave overnight. In a 2 story house, I will often do 2 days. Ozone is heavier than air so it's good to elevate the machine. I also use fans to distribute the ozone thoroughly. More, or larger machines can lessen the time. For cars, a minimum of 4 hours, serious odors, overnight. In a car, do not seal up tight. Ozone needs oxygen to convert to ozone. Open at least one window a crack. A good service to offer is for people moving into a new house, ozonate it before they move in to get rid of old odors and freshen up the air. Nice to have the hvac system going at the same time.

16 Grams per Hour
:eekk:
Man! I have never heard of such an animal.

Our regular everyday 2000 puts out 2 grams and hour. The next size up is on a 3 wheeled cart and puts out 4.5 grams an hour. Then we have the beast that is only for commercial work, used mostly for large spaces like warehouses. It puts out 8.5 grams an hour and is loaded with plates. When it kicks on you run or you catch a blast of Ozone.

12 grams? I cannot imagine. I need to send Dan the link, he might want one.

Ron, thanks. That ties in with what I used to know about a Tennessee made brand of household ozone machines called Alpine Industires, later Ecoquest. Dunno if they are still in business.
I have an electric thermal fogger, the smaller one that is used for insects.

But, I'd prefer no oily residue, so maybe it is time to get an ozone generator.

Didn't the EPA bring down Alpine Air for exaggeration? Regardless they had mica plates which were brittle and were damaged easily during cleaning.

I don't know about the EPA. They used (and I think still do) glass plates with a stiff grid on each side.

Then somewhere they shifted to hydroxyl because ozone smells bleachy.

I still run one in my mother in law's room. But it only puts out a smidge of ozone, not grams!

Here's the problem with the Alpine or other household ozone generator. If it generates enough ozone to purify the air and kill mold spores and get rid of cigarette smoke, it is generating enough ozone to be a health hazard. Ozone can break down your mucous membranes and cause all kinds of respiratory problems. If it doesn't generate enough ozone to cause health problems, then it is doing squat for the indoor air quality in the first place. I used to have a Phillipino family as customers and they had their old grandma who smoked, cooped up in a 10x10 bedroom with an alpine ozone generator. She died eventually. So what killed her? The smoking, or the ozone generator?

Only when she was smoking, which was about 2 packs a day. Smoking and breathing Ozone, great combination. I bet her breath was fresh.

Did she grow a third eye? I always wanted to see that.... My pops would tell me not to breathe that stuff in..... Respirators, you mean hold your breath?!?

I can't stand cigarette smoke.... Cigars, weed, E cigs, but not cigarettes.......:errf:
