Todd and I talked about this today and last night

Ran through possible causes....and then became suspect of potential previous cleaning....someone using and optical brightner...

and also bit suspect....or at least nervous about the prespray he used, but again, cannot validate that and no MSDS available I could find....

but, he was rinsing with a Butler rinse that is RTU 3.5 to 4 so then was wondering if can't rinse out prespray....but I keep coming back to was this cleaned by someone with a possible problem cleaning agent and not the one he was using yesterday.

Tough to figure out, and the most important part was to figure out how to fix this situation for him and his client....

So far the peroxide is working and more importantly.....

He was an unbelievable cleaner and business person to reach out for help...and

HE REFUNED THE MONEY AND IS STILL TRYING TO FIX IT FOR THE CLIENT!

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT THING IN MY EYES!

Sorry you are going through this Todd, but we are all learning from your situation....and I really hope we can help you and us for future.

Thank you so much for putting it all out on the line so we can learn too!

It is supposed to be a super charged version of procyon type pre spray, little if any foam, rinses very well.
I have been using this on olefins, poly's, and nylons with zero problems and very good cleaning results.
I am pretty sure that the carpet cleaner the builder was using to clean this model home was using something that shouldn't be used on carpet.
Typical builder, goes with the cheapest guys with no thought as to what kind of quality he brings to the table.

I used to work for a builder and I took great care of their carpets without cutting corners.

My bet is they used a cheap hack and have no idea what this guy has done or is doing to their carpets.

It looks like it stayed wet to long. Carpets full of sudsy residue kill your vacuum to the point of almost not working. You can hear the difference when you pick up the wand. When it's really bad you can feel it. You have to watch the window on the zipper. I've yet to have anybody work for me that hears it. I can hear it from the other room.

I can hear it also. I can tell just by listening to the sound my wand makes before I start and tell if everything is fine.
On this job, no suds and no suction probs, the color change occurred before I started rinsing

Toxic soup..

Just imagine what's going to happen the next time a cleaning agent hits it..

Hey Mikey,
If she were to call me back for another cleaning how would you handle that?
1. Politely turn it down
2. Use a chem on the acidic side as a pre spray?
3. Or do you think that peroxide neutralized everything back to normal?

I wonder if she would let you test clean on a scrap or door mat if she had a spare piece or two.

Its confusing because it wasn't there until after you presprayed yet the picture looks like it was your rinse.
I'd want to test both your prespray & rinse on some of that carpet that has not been cleaned by the previous cleaner or yourself, just to see if there is a reaction.

Your pre-spray might be too high for scotch-guarded carpet. The yellow tint is a Ph shift in the Scotchgard/ carpet.. Use an Acid rinse as a prespray and make it stronger then usual because you are trying to correct a problem then prevent one. There may have been to much soap/detergent left by previous cleaning causing too much foam in vac lines which will decrease suction and contributing to the brown out problem. When was the last time you cleaned the lint out of your wand head-- which will also decrease suction? Do more dry strokes.

I think the peroxide is hiding the source thats still in the carpet.

Peroxide is an acid and working same as acid rinse. If stain magic is used -It contains ammonia which would be counter productive to the task of shifting the pH back to neutral Is this Case.

We had a similar job yesterday. Old folks who's daughter is a real estate big shot. 30 year old white very dense nylon pile.

Grey'd out, bleach stains, loads of residies from every dude in town.

Davis overworked it trying to be the hero.

He rinced with ICE but it still dried yellowy brown in the high traffic areas.

Havent seen this much what with all our repeats but back in my coupin company says it was almost daily having to deal with other's residues..

Have you addressed it and been there to fix it yet?

If so, what was the cure for this one?

Thanks, I am here to learn :)
