We had a commercial water loss that had a mysterious odor.

A very sour odor like a sour dish rag or the smell similar to laundry left in the washer overnight. Everything was dry as we Thermal scanned the room. We had cleaned the carpet and thought possibly they had closed the room up. After checking the carpet, it wasn't the source of the odor.

After closer inspection we discovered the culprit. A single ceiling tile had a water stain on it. In the darkened area the odor was just awful. The one tile mad the whole room smell horrendous once closed up.

Have a phantom odor? Look for a water stained ceiling tile. :winky:

We've had those mysterious odors also.. A private school was blaming the carpet for the dirty sock smell.. They had a janitorial company cleaning the carpets said an odor formed after they cleaned it.. We came in and sprayed a disinfectant, then cleaned the carpet, got it dry fast with Airpaths.. Still had that lingering odor..

We thought it might be the a/c duct work since the 2 rooms shared the a/c and smell.. We ozoned it without making much difference, still had that "musty" odor..

Both rooms below grade and would get flooded.. They changed the carpet in the bigger room.....Same problem with the dirty sock smell.. Come to find out, a pipe in the concrete wall has a leak that would seep.. Supposedly they fixed it the problem..

Things that make you go hmmm....
