I've only been using it a couple of months, but now for some reason my phone doesn't recognize the scanner. it's a new phone, so i don't think it's the phone, has anyone else had this problem?

It helps to pinch it as you swipe the card.

Practice on your own card. I did, and ran two or three $1 transactions to gain confidence in it.

Square payments have been clearing my bank in no more than two days....love it.

Yeah I've been using it droid X2 thats why I bought that phone. it was working now it isn't, doesn't recognize the scanner anymore

Turn the phone completely off, then back on again.

go to an apple store and pick up a new one or just email square they will send you a new one also.

My guess is the post got oofed up.

Do your earphones work on it?

You can swipe $0.00 transactions with the card reader. The support page on the website says to do this to practice using it.

IMO the reader is a complete POS, but the ability to take cards with square is great compared to most alternatives.

I have 50 square readers.. My free square tshirt shrunk, cheap POS just like the reader.

Switched to gopayment better reader better service, not that square is bad.. I do like the compact size of the square reader.

I recall something about cleaning the port on the phone with a toothpick, but I'd try a reset 1st..

Turn the volume all the way up on your phone.

I'm assuming he means even after plugging the reader in the icon on the sq app still displays no scanner installed.
Volume won't cure that..

Plug in a ear bud/ mic make sure the 3 sources are working by making a call. Do you hear stereo in your ears, and is the mic working?
