fresh water or salt? BIG DIFFERENCE

Ive heard of guys deliberately resinking a salt water casualty in fresh water to help flush the salt out, depends on the size of boat too

Yea....Huge difference.

Just being in a saltwater environment can wreak havoc without even going under.

What type of boat exactly?

I almost sunk my new to me boat last week. It's an inboard boat. I totally forgot to put the plug in that's right below the engine when I put the boat in the water. That thing had almost 6inches of water in it when I found out what I didn't do. I was in panic mode while I was putting the plug in

But other than that, you have a truckmount. Just suck the water out and bring it to shore

Just get it moving and pull the plug. The water will drain back out.

if the engine was running when it went under probably 50:50 chance of the engine being ok, between the engine hydraulicing itself or welding its own crankshaft with DC current. If not running and battery was disconnected drain and replace all fluids and turn over without plugs until purged. The engine should be ok

They already had all that taken care of. They just want us to clean it.

Steve's in Michigan, so this would be fresh water unless the boat was in the Saginaw Bay then it could be considered sewage lose .

Steve , I would clean as normal once it's all dried out.

Go ahead and clean it, just make sure that you won't be responsible for what you can't see.

Most of the time on a boat that small cushons are bagged. Meaning they have a plastic bag around them so rain and water dont penetrate to the cushion. So if it sunk there is lots of water trapped in the cushons. Just fyi.

PS the floor is probably plywood...probably untreated unless it's a higher end boat. Wood can hold a lot of water depending on how long it's been submurged.

It has been my experience that most boat builders use marine grade plywood for backing and flooring. Not impervious to rotting, but it holds up a lot better than standard plywood.

Agreed, regarding marine ply but the quality of plywood depends largely on the builder and pricepoint of boat. A good build with marine ply will have at least a hot coat of epoxy on it. A sinking and rainwater are two different animals IMHO. And no telling what shape the floor was in prior to the sinking. When I hear "ski boat" it could be 5K or 90K.
