At 53 , chronic back arthritic pain that subsides as the day progresses and " carpet cleaners cough"
I ask you in all seriousness... what is your long term exit plan?
Entering my 30th year behind a wand.
Not much left in the tank and my brain checked out 5 years ago
Watchagonna do Bout your future ?
I think I may have to go full Pruitt to reinvigorate myself

Yep that was me. When I was about that age as well. I have another business so...quit...had enough.
But like Damon said the economy changes, sometimes its good...sometimes it isn't. 2 million in stock might be enough but probably not. Change happens. Bit coins... but if you would cashed out your Apple stock and invested at the beginning...

Anyway, life happens. Should be doing what you want to do. I actually love what I'm doing now...having fun and meeting awesome people. The phone rang all day today and all the calls were for my brand new little business. Exciting.

I hope you avoid the re-start, get the new Butler and get excited about how much more stock you are going to buy with all the money your Cleaning Business brings in. My way is the hard way.

Ok, going to share here. Even though no one cares. At one time I thought I had it all figured out. Then I realized that God laughs at those who make plans. I had about $2mil in equities (so I thought) and my plan was to sell all my properties one day and just live off the interest.

I'm confused... peak to trough the 2008-09 correction was 40%. Did you sell out at the bottom? Still should have cashed out with at least $1.2 mil.

If you held it would be north of $4 million today

You're assuming index funds. He could have been invested in internet or other risky stocks that lost a lot more than 40%.

It was a lot of things. But as captain of the ship I blame myself. Over extended and a house of cards. I held out longer than most. Tulsa is a tough market. Did I sell? Haha, More like gave back to the banks. There was a point I threw up my hands and said ****-it. I don't even want to think about if I held out for today. It's depressing. One of my former employees likes to send me pictures of my 48 unit complex showing me the improvements that the new owners are making....... Thanks alot.

Actually, I'm much happier now. Go figure.

Great observation

When we built our house we installed a Jacuzzi tub

Used it maybe 2 dozen times in 20 years, mostly in the first year

Hot tubs are a constant drain, maintenance and cost

Go to hotels or a gym and use theirs

go to a spa and have a deep tissue massage after. works better when you're all warmed up.

Interesting. Hadn't considered the brain/ chronic pain connection

I've delayed cortisone and refuse any medication including ibuprofen

May reevaluate the injection to see if the relief can improve mental state

A couple of years back I developed a severe herniated disk. I literally was in tears in the mornings crawling on the floor from one room to another. Most painful thing I have ever encountered next to a broken heart. Like you I did not want to go cortisone. Finally decided to do it after months of excruciating pain. Minute or two after the first shot it was like the difference of night and day. What a relief finally!!! Went back in a few weeks later for the second treatment.

Have not looked back since. No more pain. Only two treatments. Worked for me. Til this day I continue with normal excercise of weight lifting, stretching and healthy eating. Your diet and routine exercise is a must. Your mind is a factor. Decide to live healthier and stick to it no matter what. It’s hard as we all are prone to revert back. Gotta fight yourself and set goals. You will not regret it but embrace it and become happy you did.
And yes your mind plays a huge role.

You can do it.

Ironic I log in and see this. I have to say, you guys that were telling me back in '06 to be my own boss were right. October 29th 2010 was the day I moved back to Ohio and started this journey. I went from living in a car and living in Olson's basement to living with family, apartments, buying one of the properties from my landlord, to buying a small home, and just bought 3 acres of land that I'm going to build on in 2 years.

Web design/SEO business has changed quite a bit. Went from on top of the world to firing everyone and starting over by myself. Now we're moving again and hiring again finally and branching out from this industry a lot more. I've even thought about venturing back into carpet cleaning and have been checking out some used equipment. I joined a networking group and some old contacts mentioned how they need someone to do turnovers because all of the local guys suck and they miss working with me and Millers when that was around. An old co-worker is on shut down in the summer and he'd be perfect to knock out apartments and occasionally wow Mrs Piff. He was the first assistant I trained who ended up having his own truck after. Need one more person in place before I can consider that.

Other than that, I got fat sitting for most of the day as Mikey and Bawb pointed out in Nashville but spent the last year getting skinnier again. I've been quoting the wrong weight on Facebook as I went to the doctor last week and found out I was 216 at my heaviest and I'm sitting at 168 currently. I did get get down to 156 when I was sick earlier in the year but that was just all bad. When I was heavier I hurt all the time and never realized how horrible pop/soda is and how it makes you feel like trash. I didn't have to do any of that clean eating stuff but be more aware and make sure I move around more and exercise a few times a week.

I'm only 31 and I plan to keep going because I'm having fun. Plus my kiddo is now 7 and into t-ball, soccer, and Cub Scouts. Being able to run around with him and have the freedom to go to games and participate with him in Scouts is a blessing. I'm the leader of his age group. We only had 3 last year but this year we have 8 and he enjoys it and it's fun to work with the kids(Not in a Renny Burr kind of way). I know there's quite a few people here friends with me on Facebook but still a lot that aren't. When he was first born I posted a picture and a few now and then in the past. He's nearly to my shoulder(that's height off the stool @hogjowl)

It’s worthy to note in my case of herniated disk...was due to tremendous amount of stress at the time. Stress I believe triggered the body. Stress is a killer emotionally, psychologically, mentally...physiologically period!

Stress is the most likely source of all cancers and physical break of the body. Manage that and your on your way to a healthier life.
