Carpets aren't made out of acrylic anymore?

Every time I've cleaned this fiber the results have been amazing..

Just seems a better choice then smart strand.

Been so long but I don't think it had wear issues had trouble drying. Think it held on to water well.

Hum.. but I thought it was solution dyed "plastic"--- why would it hold water?

I "think" the fiber was designed to make it more durable and so it held moisture.

I may be wrong but I remember it getting darker as you cleaned it and having a terrible time drying it without airmovers. Which were not as plentiful as they are now.

Mexicans use a lot of black lights and window shades, so pay no attention to Chavez.

Their time on the market was very short. Just wondering if the fiber was too good and lasted too long?
Maybe it made a toxic gas in a fire?

I found this text about the fiber:

Acrylic was introduced to the carpet industry in 1957 as a synthetic imitation to wool. Acrylic carpet has the appearance of wool with a far lower price tag. Because of several performance problems acrylic disappeared from the carpet market in 1988. In 1990 it was re-introduced in Berber styles for it’s wool like appearance and it being used as a blend with nylon. Acrylics advantages are that it is resistant to water based stains and has low absorbency. Disadvantages are that traffic areas maintain a dirty appearance after thorough cleaning. Poor resilience means that crush marks from heavy furniture may be permanent. Acrylic area rugs may be susceptible to color bleeding.

But since our cleaning and chemistry has improved, maybe the mills should reinvestigate this fiber as a possibility.?.

No. We come across acrylic in area rugs both as a stand alone fiber and in blends. Does not wear well and is difficult to clean because of wear issues.

I'm pretty sure all carpets have irremovable furniture indentations giving the weight of the piece on the carpet....
