Considering most hose runs are 150' and you're using 2" vacuum hose.
What is the ideal HG/CFM setup?
Why?

I have clients that use portables, small TM's (Rage-HM318) as well as Aerotechs and all the between.
Some off them are very successful and some are not so much.
Seems that the machines all suck efficiently enough to make good money but some of the CC 's suck at it.

Would you bolt one of those potables down in a truck? Why?

and to answer the question ...do you believe in air watts?

The rage has a SMALL blower.....it is not going to be as forgiving as a large blower

I don't know. I thought you were going to tell us. Your post seems to indicate that it doesn't. They all have sufficient suck.

As with distributors and manufacturers , some carpet cleaners run their business with integrity, honesty and dependability, some don't. A successful business is hard work, most people don't have the ability to focus and continue to serve their customer for 40 yrs.

I think that all the machines will do that their limitations will allow. You only need what you need. Why spend the money on something you don't.

Very few of our hose runs are 150'.

Typically 13"hg and 300 cfm thru 100' of 2" hose. I can crank it if I need more heat or cfm.

Okay, not the same tool but I own a 18 volt cordless drill and 80 % of the time I don't need the power.
When I do it is there and I have less limitations on the job to be done.

Most of the expense of cleaning is in labor. Bigger vac and hotter water = less time.

I'm a firm believer that in our industry -size does matter. a bigger blower will remove more soil and water with each pass, thereby enabling you to get the job done quicker.since you can get the job done quicker you can add on more jobs. a bigger blower will also leave your carpet dryer it's greatly helps with customer satisfaction and increase the likelihood that they will be cheerleaders for your business.just don't choke that big blower with an inch and a half hose or wand

Can a tech with a single wand unit leave the carpet as dry by making a extra vacuum pass, as the tech with a big blower that makes no dry pass?

What is the first thing the tech with the big blower is taught? "You don't need dry passes with this machine."

This is a $$ decision plain and simple. If these porty/vlm guys were banging out $150-200k a year they wouldnt care about the lousy $4000 of a TM.

You can have the biggest baddest machine and choose to do subpar work. Personally, going from a HM CDS to a Powerclean Genesis makes all the difference to me. Having screamin heat makes all the difference. I run my machine at 13-14 " and usually as hot as the machine will put out or just under boiling.

I always need it. Why turn it down. Hell, I paid less than 50% of new at 2 years old (1200 hours) for my machine. Bought way more than I needed.

I always push my machines harder than you are supposed to. Max speed , heat and vacuum. 17 hg. I always prefer to have more than I need. It doesn't cost that much more in the long run. The truth is Some people will never be good in business and are better employees.

Typically I would expect someone who paid more to do a better job. You can usually spot someone who cares about his trade by the tools he buys. Most of my competitors won't spend the money for a decent truckmount. Duct tape and rust are everywhere. Two guys park beside me and their vans look like a bomb went off. They don't work much and I personally wouldn't let them in my house. No uniforms. The way you treat your own stuff reflect directly on you. Not trying to ruffle feathers some people with rusted out, duct taped , clothes hangers holding it all together do good work also.

success has little to nothing to do with the machine.
I agree most all machines suck "sufficiently " enough to make money

"efficiency" gains can increase one's bottom line though
increased heat, and more vac (which allows for more flow) can all contribute to those efficiency gains
