Perhaps a few of us that do this type of work could list the top 10 or so tools you can't do without!!

I'll kick it off. Keep in mind I mainly do small repairs and very rarely have to lift the carpet so reinstallation type tools are not usually needed.

Kool Glide.
6" duck bill napping shears
stanley knives with a good supply of new blades.
awl.
cushion pad trimmer.
glue gun
soldering iron-new.
rollers/weights.
6" long nose pliers.
camera!

For me it would definately be: (in no particular order)

1. Power Stretcher with Adjustable Head and Locking Arm
2. Glun Guns - 1 T-Tip and 1 Thin Nozzle
3. Good Straight Edge
4. THE KOOLGLIDE!!!!
5. MiniStretcher
6. Ice Picks

and just to round it off:
7. Sewing Needle & Thread
8. Scrim Tape or old Secondary Backing
9. an assortment of carpet cutters
10. Napping Shears and Carpet Shears

I could probably go on, but I will stop...

This is some of what I use on a basic carpet repair.
