I recently heard about this website. I don't know much about it. I am not endorsing it. Just passing along information.

The purpose is to warn contractors about dishonest, crazy or hard to deal with customers. Eventually there will be a fee to be a member. However, no fee right now as they build-up their membership - ContractorsCustomers.com

Thought of that idea years ago but everyone said it would be illegal or open one up to liability.

Odd. I’ve met astronauts, sports figures, engineers, ranking officers, medical names and on and on from Angies List.

But they are no more important to me than the guy up the mountain with cancer who calls asking for prayer, or the guy who gave up pro ball to start a shelter for abused children. Those are my high end...

Several years ago I was talking to a customer about my website and SEO. He was a general contractor who hired me for an emergency extraction and dry down of a town home. We did the pack out and tear out as well. I went as far as preparing his exactimate billing to submit to the insurance company.

He was pitching to me his idea for the reverse Angie's List, Complaining about getting screwed over by customers. He ended up screwing me out of over $5000.

So, did he make the list?

I saw a local publication years ago that provided this service. The list was cross-referenced by name, name of company, and area. Each complaint was listed with details of the job, amount of money lost, and supposed problem used to justify not paying. Most had no reason listed, the people had just refused to pay.

It was published by a regional building trades association for the use of their members, and in a few cases named some of their members as the bad debt.

It was pointed out to me after a very wealthy contractor tried to get out of paying us for a lot of work at his house. A guy that ran a plumbing company showed me the lengthy listing under the contractor's name and said that we should join the association just to get the book.

Wouldn't hurt to subscribe, eh?
