I will be starting my business in Canada where the temperature varies a lot.

Summer days can be just as hot as the south in American BUT the winter months will go well below freezing temperature.

Will the equipment I buy be different? What are some things I will need to consider?

Thanks!

If you're in Montreal, think about what sector of the market you want to service. You have lots of highrises that you can easily service with a portable. Lots of commercial carpet where you can use an OP machine or Cimex. Parking will be an issue downtown, in the suburbs a truck mount will be the way to go for houses. Where in Montreal are you located?

I'm in Longueuil.
The OP and Cimex look similar. What's the difference?

The Cimex is heavier and uses a planetary 3 brush/pad system. Can give a fast, aggressive cleaning. Op's can be a little more versatile, using fiber scrub pads or absorbent pads. Technically, you can use absorbent pads on a cimex but not practical. I have 2 cimexes and 1 orbital. I am considering selling the cimexes and buying another orbital.

If you stay on the south shore, you have lots of houses and light commercial for a truck mount. Less travel than going downtown and easier parking.

I think I might consider using a great Portable system in the Winter months. Get it in doors and be a little comfortable.

The thing I didn't like about using a portable in the winter is it exhausted hot humid air into the home. So not only did we add moisture to the carpet but we added funky humid air too. It just seems to extend drying times and made the windows sweat.

Low moisture is just a better alternative unless its urine, vomit or blood you're cleaning up. Then you have no choice but the rain forest approach.

James;

I knew of a gentleman who ran it from the customers garage, which would be somewhat warmer than running from a truck dodging the outside elements.

Just a thought.
