I took it all the way to the bottom of the riser so there would be no seam on the bottom and bradded it to the tack strip that was there. Since it was the top step, it was a separate piece from the rest of the stairs which is why they had tack on the riser. Worked out great. If you fold the carpet right where it goes over the bullnose it breaks the backing just enough to make it more pliable.

Do you staple it under the nose? If so what kind of staple gun do you have? I need to invest in one.

This kind of bullnose I don't brad, but the kind that is a full bend I will on the underside. This was thick carpet and I wanted to give it some room to relax because at the bend it was pretty stiff even after I folded it to "break" the backing and make it flexible. If you brad it you can end up with puckers at each Brad.
I'm not sure what the name of my Brad gun is but I will check in the am...it's a very good one, extremely powerful and durable and over 10 years old.
Check out Mountain Trade Supply online, they are our local install and repair supply house but I'm sure you can buy online. They sell great tools.
