In the almost 10 years we've been offering this product, we've maybe gone on 1-2 spot clean call backs a year. Well worth offering this product. And we get almost double the cost for Maxim with the warranty, than we do for Scotchgard. Maxim sales last year, $14,790. Scotchgard $22,875. You an pay a tech's salary just in protection sales.....

Seriously, how on earth do you manage to sleep at night?

Seriously, how on earth do you manage to sleep at night?

What do you mean? Do you take issue with the fact that we are able to tap in to the market that wants our products and services and are willing to pay for it, and are repeat customers, and refer us to others? If our clients felt they were being charged unfairly, they wouldn't use us or would push back when we quote over the phone and do the walk through and present them with the final work order and price. We'd be out of business.

I really do want to know, what your issue is with it and why you ask that question?

Order a steak at Outback or one at Morton's/Ruth Chris/Sullivans.....both could come from the same cow...or at least the same farm. Would you ask Morton's/Ruth Chris or Sullivan's how they sleep at night because they charge 3x the amount that Outback does?

There are a ton of examples of this, and it was recently discussed in a different thread. Why is this such an outrage in our industry when someone does this, but it's acceptable everywhere else. Hell, I'd be excited to learn that a fellow cleaner is able to do this. I'd say well done and I hope to be able to do that too. It elevates the whole industry.

But no...here we get "How do you manage to sleep at night...."

*** I post our "numbers" not to brag. I often struggle with whether to do so or not. Ultimately, I do because I think it makes it "real" for others and helps them see that it IS possible to do this.

I don't know if Brian "donwand" remark was in jest or not.
However: Meg, in the future whenever somebody offers a snide remark about your charges please take a shortcut.
Just post this-:icon_rolleyes:

They are either envious or clueless, possibly both.
Or it could be that they are so spiritually advanced that they took the vow of poverty. Most likely unintentionally :winky:

You're doing good, Thank you for sharing. Much appreciated.

We've probably doubled our residential average from 2-3 years ago, since LISTENING to some of the advice here rather than getting upset....or jealous.

I do have a very hard time selling something that has questionable quality or benefits. Having SEEN the effectiveness of Maxim has helped us a great deal. I even lowered the price to $.15 per foot just to further convince ME that we are giving the customer high value.

Since I believe in the product, I've been able to educate Mel and she sells quite a bit over the phone.

We want ALL of our customers to feel like they got good value from our service, even though we aren't the cheapest anymore.

Keep up the good work!

You know, Suprlington, RA deletes his posts in an effort to make himself look better too.

Once I read what I posted, I realized it was stupid and immature - and in an effort to redeem myself I erased my comment !! I thought I was trying to be funny !!

Way to go Russ. Keep up the great work.

Sometimes the confidence people need is to know that someone is is doing it, and that gives them the courage to try. That is why I post so openly here. I hope it will encourage others to do the same as we (and you) have and reap the rewards of their hard earned business - because every one deserves to be successful and live the life they want and then some!

We provide them with spot cleaning instructions. They are supposed to attempt to remove it themselves. Sometimes I talk them through it on the phone. If it is a qualifying spot and they cannot get it out on their own, then we will go out and spot clean at no charge. Technically, they could call us once a month and we would do that for the entire year from the time of application. If it is a "QUALIFYING" spot and we still cannot get it out, then we refund them the cost of the protection that they paid for that room or area.

Like I said, we maybe do one or two call backs a year. No one abuses it. in almost 10 years, NEVER had a person call us more than once. NEVER refunded anyone the cost of protection.

We use Prochem's Fourguard and charge .18 sq/ft.

I like the acid dye blockers but wish it would bead water like Teflon. But then Teflon doesn't provide the acid dye blockers. :dejection:

You've been around s while, remember after stain master carpet came out Prochem was going to release stain blocker by the quart for $10.00 it covered 1000 sq ft.

All it was was clear dye that filled the dye sites so red dye had no where to go.

DuPont had a fit and master series was born.

The master series test kits and certification Lol.

I like Cobbs 20-1 $80.00 a gallon you can make 4 of the hydro force bottles gals at 4-1 so instead of paying $44.95 times 4 $180.00, I save $100 and in turn don't charge an arm and a leg and do not warranty it either.

nothing wrong with charging top dollar, Brian
How much or how little poly and olefin carpet benefits from it is debatable, but there's nothing wrong with charging what the market will bare
