My family splits up by spouses and significant others.

I'll be at Carol's brother and sister in law's home. He's second generation Italian; she's second generation Hungarian. Both are terrific cooks and I can count on some unconventional and tasty items on the table.

We'll probably spend the morning up by the lake. The woodlands and beaches at Lake Erie are great for walking, and there is rarely another person in sight this time of year.

and being thankful for Hula's company one more year...

....no kidding....she is the epitome of a "lucky dog" ...

I'll be at Carol's brother and sister in law's home.

I was reminded of one thing I left out:

Every year, I ask Carol to not drop a political or religious "bomb" over dinner.

She has one sister who is a professor at a university and is liberal and an atheist, another sister who is deeply religious and believes women shouldn't work, a brother who is a vegan from Santa Cruz (of all places...), and another brother who is a conservative small business owner who loves hunting.

They always try to have a truce for the sake of their mother, who is the ruling matriarch of the family.

But then, invariably, Carol gets this smile on her face and deliberately brings up the whatever is the most incendiary issue of the day. Then she sits back and laughs....

Me? I'd rather enjoy the meal, but she sees it as "dinner and a show".

I’ll smoke a turkey, Mrs. Coastie will make something yummy and we’ll have a quiet day right up until she decides I could paint the deck or something.

I've already had 3 to go to the past few week. Family has a crazy schedule so just get together whenever we can this time of year. I'm likely spending time sitting at my grandmas figuring out her finances because I trusted my mom to help her with it for the last 6 months. Now grandma is in the process of possibly losing her house, her account is several hundred overdrawn, disconnect notices keep showing, and who knows what else. :hopeless:

I'm going to fix it and then prepare to leave Saturday when I go down to southern Ohio with my dad, uncle, brother-in-law, and cousin for hunting. The woods are shouting my name this year and I'm thrilled to be getting away for a few days.

All you are idiots if you’re cooking

I’m splitting the tab for Cracker Barrel to go this year with my sister.

Give an estimate while you're there and its tax deductible maybe.

Turkey in the oven here. Hopefully everyone will at least stop for awhile to visit.
