How often do you get freebies from clients?

I've been offered all sorts of things in the past, TVs, furniture, even a non running car once.

Most of it was junk and I passed.

But she offered me wood so I took it.

They got a gas insert, and had 1/2 a cord of buck skin left over.

My shop/garage in spokane has a wood burner.
Will be nice and toasty while rebuilding that machine.

one of my custys gave me some black walnut.
Told me I could back anytime and get more.

He's an Old Timer that makes furniture.
Used to anyway, he's pretty up there in age now and doesn't do much wood working anymore.

one of his out buildings he showed me is an old 12 x 60 trailer.
he's got $70K or better worth of black walnut stored in it.

Nice score Becker! I spent the day cutting down a 100 ft tall lodgepole pine in the mountains that netted about 3 chords. I'm ready for winter now.

Yes I burn pine in my fireplace. That is the most prevalent wood out here and lodgepole is a great wood to burn for fuelwood. What makes you think it's unseasoned?

lots of good dry standing timber.

in wa state it needs to be fallen to cut for firewood via permit.

I guess the standing dead stuff offer refuge for wildlife.

not only that, but I'm sure it keeps guys from cutting live stuff.

Here you can cut fallen or standing dead but if it has any green on it you can't touch it. The only thing these standing dead were harboring were spiders. Stuff burns great too. They keep the cutting of live stuff to a minimum by throwing out huge fine if they catch you cutting it and they patrol a lot this time of year.

you mentioned "just cutting it down"

no one around here burns pine ...with any regularity anyway.
I'm told the concern is chimney fires due to more creosote/tars/oils/turpenes in pine

we also have an abundance of hardwood forests everywhere here

No Larry we can't cut green wood, it's a no no here. This tree was well seasoned and is burning quite well right now in the fireplace. I would love to burn a harder wood at times but there isn't much else but pine around here.

How bout some sage brush? Burns pretty good and there's plenty of it.

It does leave a lot of creosote. So you either have to burn hard wood from time to time to burn it out. Or have your chimney swept occasionally.
