Just informed that I was voted in the top 3 carpet cleaners in my primary service area. Will learn May 30th if I am number 1,2 or 3. I didn't know about the contest sponsored by a local newspaper and didn't have any of my buddies voting for me. Just my customers. One of the others is Coit. Amazing since I do 1\10th of the business they do.

You're skilled and a seasoned vet, I'd hire you...as long you don't drag a fookin portable in my house. It 😉
Never use a porty in a house but I was using one in a condo today. The lady was telling me about the previous cleaner whose machine was dumping dirty water on the carpet. It seems so many guys don't know how to dilute their Chem's or use defoamer. One reason I use procyon.

Are portables that prevalent there? Seriously those seem like 70's issues. ???

Portables are 50% of my work. The job this morning was $200 for just over an hour's work. I have 2 portable jobs tomorrow and one truck mount job. These are all in buildings that are inaccessible by truck mounts. Important to have a powerful portable and know how to use it. Never the same as a truck mount but you can still do a good job with good drying times. They are usually smaller jobs than what you would do with a truck mount. Price is always the same.

Not that I should tell you how to run your business.................but portable jobs should be charged at a higher price.
It takes longer and the work is harder to accomplish good quality work. Well.... in your case- decent, you know your typical 109% water recovery rate.

But then you are all socialist, commie bbbb....bureaucrats out there in the Canadian prairies, right? :winky:

No prairies here, just mountains and ocean. I have my portable systems down to an art. Takes no longer than a truckmount to do the same area. Sometimes it needs a little more agressive chemistry. Theres a madness to my methods.

  1. He's not delusional, he's Canadian.
  2. He's been exposed to and been reading his posts just a tad too long.

That too shall pass :winky:

Congratulations! You must be the world's slowest truckmount operator.

I had the same type of thing happen the last couple years. A local paper had me winning bronze then silver back to back the last two years. Funny thing is the other winners all advertised in their paper and I never have advertised there. I always figured those type of things were easily fixed so never paid attention to it.

It's based on votes that people have submitted to the newspaper or on line. Neither of the other 2 advertise either. The paper would like you pay for a thank you letter of course. Last year, none of the winners in this category did so. I won a similar thing years ago but when they found out that I was an owner/op, they said they couldn't award it to me. Had to be a real company. They wouldn't take into consideration that I just smoked the so called "real companies". I would do the thank you letter, about 1/8th page for $300. It gets published online too. Good test to see if anyone still reads it. Gives me something to put on my website and Google page.
