Truck Mount Mechanic Wanted

I recently purchased a slide in truck mount (made by AmTex in Houston, TX). I'm now living in the Jackson, Mississippi area and looking for a mechanic to do maintenance and repairs.

Our local Interlink Supply guy (from whom I've been purchasing supplies and chemicals) doesn't work on Fridays and otherwise doesn't seem interested or able to help with my maintenance/repair needs.

Does anybody know of a truck mount mechanic in the area?

Are you serious? Are there really suppliers that are not avail 24/7 for their clients in this industry? If so I feel even more thankful we have our own in-house.

You know, if I could work only three or four days a week and still keep the wheels on my business, I'd probably do it too. Unfortunately, for me, my repair issues seem to consistently pop up on Fridays.

I don't think local distributors like it when we buy stuff from someone else and bring it in for repairs.

personally i dont actually care where people buy their equipment and then bring it in to us for service. in fact i kinda like it when someone actually buys their machinery somewhere else and then cant take it back to where they bought it and Cant get satisfactory service ....happens to us all the time ...lol

Bob, I wish I could perform all the repairs and maintenance. Before we moved to Mississippi, I had a guy working for me (for about 15 years) that took care of our truck mounts.

I typically know what the problem are, but don't have the time it takes to run the company and be the mechanic. Just not enough hours in a day!

Chad's right on,
I take mine to a local tractor/lawnmower repair guy. He's never too busy to get me in right away. He also charges a hell of a lot less than the CC machine specialists. I have been putting aside some time to learn everything about my machine also, it is priceless to be able to self diagnose and fix on the fly.

Steve, if your boycoting all of those lines your missing out on some of the best products in the industry.
I used to work at a distributor and I do not know how many times cleaners came in and broke my balls about saving a dollar or two on everything in the shop but then expected me to drop my pants for them on friday at 5pm.
Buy from your local guy and maybe he will go the extra mile for you when you need him.

Robert, I do buy from my local guy(Truck Mounts of the Carolina's) and believe me I am not missing much from those other guys, I use stuff that works. I use a lot of Harvard' chems and as long as I have been in business you have to be creative as to what you use

Bob, I know what you're saying. Seems like I should be able to do everything. My wife thinks so too!

Our company is a broad based cleaning company - everything from housekeeping services, pressure washing to hardwood floors. We have 18 employees, preforming various cleaning services (which includes two carpet vans) all over the city. I already wear too many hats.

A down carpet system doesn't bring everything to a halt, but does create pressure and and puts a tech out of work for a couple of days. Having an in-house guy for so many years insulated me from dealing with the problems of repairs and maintenance, but I've got to find a dependable solution - and the Interlink guy (from whom I've been buying thousands of dollars in chemical a year) ain't it!

personally i have a lot of respect for guys who actually take the time to learn a little bit about their machines and equipment. You have to figure that if its already broken....what more can you do to it? Last time i checked its kinda hard to break something already broken. What have you got but a chance to repair it....if you are only willing to try. Its all in diagnostics anyway....after the diagnostic part is over its simply replacing parts. Call me if you get in a jam.

I think what is being missed here is the bottom line....

This is a supply and demand issue, pure and simple.

The supplier would be open Monday - Friday, if the demand was there.

If he is to remain on-call, those 5 days, with insufficient demand or workload, simply put, he's have to raise prices of parts and labor to cover the overhead of remaining open with insufficient demand/workload.

we are open 5 days a week, Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm.

Moreover, we open up on Saturday and even Sunday, when there is sufficient demand to make it doable. However, we won't open up up Saturday UNLESS it can be done without negatively impacting our customers who we service through the week, and that means keeping the prices in line too.

There is probably no need for another mechanic in this Jackson Mississippi situation, just a need for enough demand to provide for the one who is now working part time, to go full time. And if there were, Randy's bigger problem would probably be his competitors now being in greater numbers and concentration. Be careful what you wish for. :)

if it's not electrical, fuel or water flow/no flow, what else could it be???

let someone else like your #2 manager take the wheel for a while and learn how to fix simple problems!!!

We actually offer classes to local people and their techs supply them with a list of recommended tools to keep on board with them. Then if problems occur in the field most of the time we can either walk them through the problem and get it fixed on the spot...or they at least they know they cant fix it themselves and have to bring it in. most cases it saves tons of money for the owners to be able to have access to that service, and it makes the techs more capable of keeping the cash flow coming in. Knowledge is power I always say...even if it is possessed by a monkey

Marty, I only wish I could. Perhaps if I applied myself and practiced long enough, I could.

I learned some along the way, but it intimidates me to mess with it thinking I'll make a bad situation worse and then really screw it up.

It could also be that he doesn't have the demand because he gives crappy service. Just a thought.

Joey,

You may be on to something. 99% of the time, I order chemicals and equipment over the Internet because when I drive out to the brick & mortar site, I know that there is a chance that the building doors will be locked up. Sometime someone will come to the door, unlock and ask what I need, other times not.

My guess is that if customers could depend on him being there more often (at least Monday thru Friday 9 to 5) his business would be better!
