Here's a short list of a few of the significant differences:
  1. Swingarm assembly
  2. 10" wheels and stainless axle
  3. Weights
  4. Spray system, includes:
  • Pump
  • Spray head
  • Solution tank
By the way, each of the things in the list above have been well thought out and designed to make the machine perform efficiently. We have it very nicely balanced!

But if a wheels on the ground orbital machine with a built in spray system is not appealing to you, then a basic LowBoy is certainly a worthwhile consideration as an alternative.

For those of us that are poor,, Larry has two less expensive lights, one is around $100, and the other $59, are those two worth a darn in daylight conditions? I need a new light, but hate to part with a million dollars for one.

P.S. Ask anyone who has tried a Vario. It's apples to oranges, compared to a standard LowBoy. ;)

It says the pump system is optional. So two plate weights and some wheels are what justifies the $1000?

Thanks though......your previous statements gave me the impression the lowboy was no longer being made due to the Oreck BK.............. now I know different and will snag me an op machine ;)

I'll buy a couple of Larry's flashlights with the savings

If you'd prefer to have an orbital machine that vibrates your arms till they tingle and is a pain to move across the carpet, then by all means, get a machine that doesn't have wheels on the ground.

Why does the standard Vario cost more than a LowBoy? Quite simply: Parts & Labor (and some design work too). We have a few custom machined parts that go into the Vario. Each part that we add to the bare machine adds to the price of the machine (I haven't found a source for free parts yet). And then it takes a couple of hours per machine to hand build them. So that's where the price differential comes from. And frankly, when you compare the Vario to other "wheels on the ground" orbital machines, the Vario's price represents a pretty good bargain (practically half the cost of others). That was our goal when we designed it. And I think that everyone who owns a Vario appreciates the bang for the buck it delivers!

I'm sure I'll manage...........can't be any worse than a few hours on the thumper

Thanks for your concern. I'll be sure to mention the expensive options you offer as upgrades when I recommend the Oreck lowboy for $1195 to people

they can probably find some 10" wheels and magnetic disc weights cheap on amazon though........

Bissel took possession of Oreck, following the Oreck bankruptcy. So if you get one now, it will likely be branded Bissel - but I believe they're readily available. If you decide to get one, be sure to let us know how it works out for you. The standard LowBoy never seemed to be enormously popular but YMMV.

P.S. We do not purchase our machines from Oreck or Bissel. We purchase core components directly from the manufacturer who had been building machines for Oreck. The machines come to us partially built, and we finish the build in our facility.

I wish we could sell it for less. But here's the honest to goodness truth: We take the cost of the machine, add the raw raw cost for each of the items that we add, cover the cost for a couple of hours labor, and include the cost for packing material. That's how we determine our base cost. Then we markup the machine at the same rate that everything else gets sold for.

At the end of the day, we're running about half the cost of the other wheels on the ground OP machines. So I think we have achieved what we set out to do.

Plus it's a really smooth running machine!!! Win win. :)

Maybe a review of the Oreck lowboy for $1195 '

It doesn't have the trinkets meant to justify a price premium in the face of economy of scale..................but it is $1000 less...............
