+1 for the certified pile lifter. I saw how Bob Mann uses them in his operation and it has really helped us improve the quality of our end product. We use it as one of our finishing steps, post drying.

For general vacuuming pre-wash, any vacuum with a beater bar should work fine.

I'd rather use a CRB than a pile lifter on most rugs.
Then use a vacuum to vacuum up the hairballs it will inevitably create? Why create more work?

CRB is great...for agitation and pile lifting during cleaning once cleaning agents have been applied, but its designed for a completely different application than a pile lifter.

For us, the pile lifter is the best finishing tool for pile lifting/vacuuming post wash.

We pile lift after final Tumble and then final inspection trim fringe and pile if needed and one more vacuum using Sanitare model #SC5845 adjustable, quiet, 15" ,bagless, Hepa long cord, great brush roll ....
Pile lifting can sometimes leave "bristle's".
Jordan are you coming to Seattle?
